Hello Everyone,
I sure hope someone can help me out? I just bought a new Epson Stylus
Printer, and I also upgraded my Page Stream 4.0 at the St Louis show. My
problem is how in the world does one install Page Stream? And how does one
get drivers for this printer? I mean it's a lot of money to find out that
neither one is usable? So I know there is a great expert out there that may
have had the same probs? I am using an A2500/040/Spdectrum/CGFX/32M
Computer. And a Kodak 215, that is not able to print out the pics either. Sad
Thanks in advance! Smile

Click on the supplied "Install" Icon ?!

> And how does one get drivers for this printer?

They are supplied with and installed by PageStream. Better drivers
available in Studio 2.x by Wolff Faust.

You might run into memory shortage later ...

Check Aminet for "Kodak" and see if the programs for DC 240, DC 210,
DC 20, DC 25 might be compatible.

www.innovative-web.com offers drivers for the DC 215 for DEM 20 (about
$10) in a format called vhi which is IMHO only supported by their product
line fxPAINT, VHI Studio, etc.

Check this out. It should give you what you want.

Well when I click on anything install, I only get a script? That is why I
was so confused. I obviously have done this before, since this is the
upgrade, I don't want to appear stupid, but I sure am feeling pretty stupid.
Did I miss something? lol

I have that program actually. I may try a reinstall?

open a shell
type the path, then the name of the install script
hit "Return"

(I don't have v.4, so I don't know these names. Maybe something like,
"Pagestream4:InstallScript" (without the quotes)

maybe that will work.

Since I only have v3.4 updated ever since from v1.5 or so I don't know the
exact process. Have you activated "Show all files" instead of "Show only
icons" on your workbench ? Perhaps you don't click on the icon supposed to
install the program.

The file should be of the type "Project" and have "C:Installer" or so as
the default tool. You can also execute the installer of PageStream by
entering the PageStream CD ("CD CD0:" probably) and entering "Installer
<script>" where script would be the file you otherwise click on.

Give it a try.

You don't really need to. There's an add on PageStream Driver by -Wolff
Faus on Aminet which - once installed - directs PageStream's output to
your epson printer. I actually own an ESC 600 and am very happy with it.
If it wouldn't be so damn slow while printing from PageStream. It must be
in the drivers ...

Hope this helps. If you buy from Innovative tell them to give me a
discount as I just bought Photogenics 4.2 and am too stupid to use it. I'm
used to Adobe Photoshop at work. I was very disappointed when I bought a
full featured graphics package to find out it neither supports GIF nor
TIFF but that's another story ...

Photogenics is completely different in intent from Photoshop. Photoshop
is an image processing program intended primarily for preparing photos
and other bitmap images for publication. Photogenics is a very personal
product of a single programmer who has a unique approach to making a
creative paint program.

If you want something resembling Photoshop, I suggest Art Effect - it is
less comprehensive than Photoshop, but quite nice to use.

The Amiga market is getting too small to support the cost of GIF
licenses, but of course TIFF import/export should be included. Art
Effect does handle both TIFF and GIF.

Ok I have the Stylus 740 and I do have Studio already, I am trying the next

I had the 800 for a couple years Great Printer, I used no special setting when using
StudioII, And I did for the best result render all Pagestream Pages as .Iff files at
300 dpi then print using studioII, I never did get the Studio from pagestream to work
100% and never tryed very hard as it worked Great to .iff then to studioII

Hmmm.... are you running any weird tools that could call the script to view instead of
Run? Do scripts require Arexx Running?

Is this a CD install? or from and Upgrade Patch?

I had some trouble with the Patches and at one point had to use a older install script
to install newer PageStream... another one I had to create the Missing drawersmyself
prior to running install...

Hope something helps

I really don't know why you are experiencing any problems, but there
can always be found a solution. You could check to see if Installer is
the default too for the script - if not, then make it.

Altenatively. Open a shell, change directory to the script and type

[path]Installer <script>

where the path for Installer only is needed if Installer isn't located in
the current directory or somewhere along your path, and 'script' is the
name of the installation script.

Hello Uffe,

Here is exactly what I get when opening the CD, 2 drawers one labeled
Extras, the other says PAGEST~1.INF, there are 2 script images also that
are labeled, EXTRAS~1.INF, PAGEST~2.INF.

Well I went into the shell and got this, ERROR: Symbol name not valid here
on line 1.
Installer script comes up with 44.10 (1.10.99)

If you can make any sense out of that? I still think it must have happened
when I moved my old stuff over. I am running DOpus/Magellen. When I say the
installer is not working it's the image itself that is missing the one with
the plug/disk. Well I sure this mystery can be resolved. And btw those with
the suggestion to go searching I found my printer driver on a demo version
of Turbo Print which I am going to try and see if that helps, and I do have
StudioII installed.
Thanks back to my investigation. ;)

Weird! Those are PC-type (8.3-character, all-caps) filenames, yet you say
you are running an Amiga.

My CD ROM (for release 5) has two drawers on it: PageStream4.0r5
and Extras. The Extras drawer contains two items, APDF and ICS.
The PageStream4.0r5 drawer contains the following icons:

Install-PageStream4
PageStream4
BME
PageLiner
HHV
readme.now
Text (drawer)

By invoking Show All Files, I see also Installer, various drawers,
HHV.Fontprefs &c.

Checking the datestamps of the various files, the latest ones are
March 24, with the readme.now file datestamped March 25.

Is this anything like what's on your CD?

Very weird. It is Windows files names that are truncated to 8+3 as MS-DOS
do it. My guess is that whoever made the CD has burned it with a wrong
file format. It certainly explains why the installation doesn't work. You
will need a filesystem that can expand the file names to their full name.

It also means that there will be no icons, because Workbench can't find
them etc. etc.

The newest version of CrossDOS should be able to understand Windows
file names, though I don't know how to use it with a CD. Another
possibility is to install CacheCDFS which also are able to handle Windows
file names. CacheCDFS is shareware and is available from Aminet in the
IDEfix distribution:

disk/misc/IDEfix97.lha

file size around 400 kB. Newer version might exist, so take a look at
the files in disk/misc. Having installed CacheCDFS and having mounted
the CD-ROM drive should enable full file names and therefore make
installation possible.

I certainly hope that not too many has received such a CD.

No doubt there is. All the file names are just Win95->DOS truncated.

And so now the muddy waters clear Smile I'm betting it's your CD
filesystem! Hopefully, the CD filesystem you're using has the option
to select RockRidge or Joliet name extensions to get you out of the
8.3 toilet...

My daughter uses a Kodak215 an it produces some very good results for the
price. She uses a serial link to a PC to download the pics as jpegs, but you
can also get a gizmo which accepts the K215 memory card and 'converts' it into
effectively a floppy disk, readable on a PC (or an Amiga equipped with
CrossDos). Might be HD format though(?).

If this hasn't already been answered (I'm behind on my email), I think I
know the answer. I just got my 4.07r CD from Deron (thanks!) and when I
inserted it, Asim CDFS put up the window to choose the file system. At
first I chose ISO (whatever), and I got a bunch of def_icons. I tried the
install icon and got the OS requester asking for the arguments.

I fooled around a bit without installing, and rebooted. When the Asim
requester came back up, I chose Rock Ridge this time. When I opened the CD
icon, all of the expected icons were there.

So the answer is, choose Rock Ridge, and you'll see the expected install
icon.

Billy

Hello Ed,
THANK YOU!!! WEll I got to thinking about it and remembered that something
new was in the new os, so I went back and investigated, and sure enough,
there is a setup, but was ghosted, and thanks to you, I realized my cd rom
drive wasn't recognized due to I left it at cd3, well as soon as that came
out of storage and put in devs, the setup was no longer ghosted, so I played
with it and like magic there was two pagestream4.0r5, so I clicked on one
and the same old thing, the second however was AMIGA familiar, with the
install graphic, AHA, well I am a very happy camper. Thank you so much. I
swear all the advice I got from everyone was so cool. Thank you all. I don't
see this in the pc scene at all, sure for 50.00 an hour, but here we are so
free to share, yep I am so greatful to be an amigan! Smile)

Well this does sound interesting indeed. I may check out the site and see if
they have it available etc. Thanks. BTW it does take great pictures and
works with my Amiga, but I do need a serial card, and the new PageStream
seemed to print just fine? Go figure. Thanks for the info. Smile
