Hi,

In the past 6 months I got PageStream4, TurboPrint4, and an HP895C
printer and AmigaOS 3.5. I'm not sure if my problems are in
TurboPrint, Pagestream, AmigaOS, or elsewhere.

The HP printer is connected to the parallel port on a GVP I/O
extender. My system has a GVP 68060 and 128M ram

I have the printer prefs setup to go to the GVP board and the HP
printer selected.

I can print from TurboPrint's graphics publisher.

I can print text files from shell like "cat file.txt > prt:" and the
TurboPrint spooler pops up.

I have PageStream configured to print to the closest HP model number
on its list and to print to PRT:. I didn't know how to direct it to
the gvppar.device unit 0 from the config window.

If I try to print from PageStream, the screen switches back to
workbench and I usually see the Turbo spooler window pop up before a
"recoverable alert" screen pops up. The alert _is_not_ recoverable!
The alert screen will not clear.

Suggestions?

-Mike

Hello sherman,
Sounds like some of my problems, hope you saw the one directed to me about
the site to go to as well as the problems with OS3.5/boingbag? If not your
problems may too be an associated mess like mine. Let me know if you get
anywhere? I will definately let all of you know if nothing else, than for,
referrence. Smile

In the *Print Setup* requester, there is a popup menu Titled *Send To:*
that has the options of where to send the output from PageStream when
you are printing. That menu has an option to send to "device". When you
select that option you will be able to access a text gadget to the right
of the popup menu. In that gadget, you should put the name of the
AmigaDOS logical device that the gvppar.device sets up to handle
redirection (like "type foo > bar:", where bar: is the logical device
name). Find out what that logical device name is for your device driver,
and type that name into the text gadget.

I have a setup similar to yours: GVP '060 w/32 megs ram, OS 3.1, GVP IO
Extender, Studio Printer II. Probably the biggest difference is the print
driver, and I have no problems printing to an HP 882C printer.

With the GVP IO Extender is a program that is supposed to redirect output to
Par: or Prt: to gvppar. The prefs program supplied with the card will not
run on my computer, but printing is transparent as it is. In PgS, my
printer is set to Par: using the PgS drivers.

Billy

This is the way to do it. As an example I print to the device HCPAR00:
to access unit 0 on my HyperCOM4+ I/O board.

Set up Pagestream to print to device, and name the device PS: Make
sure you have the TruboPrint prefs setup to fit your system for anything
under the PS tab. (I'm speaking only from TurboPrint 7 experience,
that's the first version I've owned. Your mileage may vary with version
4) Come to think of it, version 7 might have been the first to make
that all "automatic". Sorry, if this doesn't work for you.

Turboprint is supposed to intercept anything sent to device PS: and
send it back out to the printer. In effect, it becomes a postscript
software interpreter.

I get wonderful printouts from TP7 and Pagestream4 this way. If TP4
can't do this, it would be worth the upgrade to TP7.
