Hello again,

While I was trying to get printer output the page I was printing was
composed on the CD cover selection layout (or paper size, or whatever
it was called). I didn't notice any problem until I actually got a
print out, but the aspect ratio of the page displayed on the screen is
WAY OFF. When I was putting text on it I thought the layout was for
two "pages" that get folded to form a CD size, but when printed I
noticed the rulers that it was supposed to be a single square page!
(which of course makes sense that it sould be)

So on my screen (GVP Spectrum CGX4 800x600) a square looks twice as
wide as it is high.

I looked around the prefs for some aspect ratio adjust and didn't find
any. It would have been smart to see what a 8 1/2" x 11" layout looked
like to confirm the wierd display, but I didn't.

All of the tools buttons are nice squares. Everything else looks
normal on the screen...

What am I missing this time?

Thanks,
-Mike

Look under the first menu, System Prefs, Screen. I'm running at 800 x
600 also, but with P IV and Picasso 96. My prefs are set at x=63 and
y=64. This gives me one inch = one inch on the vertical and horizontal
rulers if I'm at "Actual Size" magnification.

If I will be you, I'll disable 'DoubleSided' [and facing pages] in
MasterPageSetup ;)

Somewhere in the help file it tells you how to set up the screen properly. It
involves measuring the physical size of the screen in inches and doing a
calculation depending on your screen mode (800x600 or whatever) to arrive at a
DPI figure to put into the screen prefs boxes.

you can tweak the on screen aspect ratio by playing with

SYSTEM PREF -> SCREEN -> display DPI

mine is 180 x 180

On or about 07:43 AM 7/3/00 a carrier pigeon from Tony Cooke delivered:

I seem to recall that I cheated on the calculations.

I just used the "rulers" to produce a 2"x2" box (regardless of
what it looked like on screen), centered on a page.

Print.

Cut out the paper box, set PageStream for 100% view, centered the
image box in the monitor, and then tweaked the DPI figures until the image
matched the cut-out when it was held over the screen.

If the image is shorter than the paper, increase the DPI in that
dimension.
