Hi

I hate to bring this up but don't know where else to voice these concerns.

I use both a PowerMac 6500/225 and a G4. Have been using PageStream since it
was Publishing Partner on the Atari.

It seems that since I migrated to Mac every version of PGS has its own
handful of bugs. Some of them can be worked around some others can't.

Currently I am still using 3.4 holding off upgrading to get ANY response
from anybody to some of my questions:
1) Why do many keyboard shortcuts not work in 3.4? After printing and other
activities shortcuts initiate different actions from what they should. This
works fine if the program has just been launched.

2) Double-clicking on a PGS document created by 3.4 will NOT launch
Pagestream even its icon clearly identifies it as the right file (and
verification with File Buddy shows the right filetype/creator).

3) Certain characters of a Fontographer created font will not work
corrently, even though every other app I use has no problems with them.

Now, I understand that this all may be cleared up in PGS 4. But can I be
sure? What about new problems? I have been seeking help with these mentioned
problems ever since I upgraded to 3.4 and even Deron has on occasion emailed
me and requested one of the problem files. Never heard back from him.

Is this the same kind of support I'll get for PGS 4?

Since weeks I have the filled out order form for PGS 4 lying on my desk but
I hesitate to send it off before I know that I am not getting into another
can of worms.

Peter

We too migrated from PGS Atari. There have been a few "upgrades" that had
problems but the latest takes care of most of my modest needs.

Things I would like improved are:

Stopping the extra sheet of blank paper from being fed through the printer
after every document printing.

And

Better pdf export.

Thanks

For the reply. So there are still Mac people who use PGS 4.

Well, it is good to know... but from your response, and from
what others have said, unless PageStream for the MAC gets fixed
pretty soon, there won't be nearly as many as we would like. The
MAC users... and Windows users I know... give up on a program
very quickly if it does not work as they want almost right away.
They know they have a zillion OTHER programs to do what they want,
and CAN be very picky... and I would bet that they would not
bother going back to try a program that did not work for them
once, cuz they have 139 other programs that seem just like it
to try...

That is one of the weaknesses in releasing Beta's on those
platforms... they are a hidebound lot and once the Windows
or MAC users get it in their heads that something does not
work, they never seem to change their minds. I had a pre-
release version of PageStream3 a few years ago. I had a
half dozen MAC users try it then, and since it did not really
work well, they deleted it quickly. I have never been able
to convince any of them to try it again....

Let's just say, if you can crash a program within the first 5 minutes of
running it by doing something totally innocent - such as using a keyboard
shortcut - people get turned off.

I can't say I am not giving PGS a chance. I try to use it whenever I can,
but 3.4 for the Mac fails often and at first signs of trouble I'll go to
another app.

But then here's the catch: I use Freehand and it's truly outstanding. At the
same time it sucks for longer documents for lack of page numbers. I have
also downloaded Corel Draw LE for free from their website. It appears
promising and at the same time I also experienced unexplained crashes.

I WANT to support PGS because I love it and I like NOT being stuck with
Quark, Adobe etc. At the same time I really hate if there are obvious bugs
that don't get fixed. I should not be forced to upgrade from 3.4 to 4 to get
a reliably working product.
