Hello,

I've run into a little problem. I wanted to convert two truetype
fonts I'm using in Amigawriter to postscript format for use with
Pagestream.

I tried to convert with TypeSmith 2.5b (special edition for Amiga
plus magazine). It reads in the TTF, but the characters are assigned
to the wrong keys, say, 'A' is now Alt-r, the numbers are on the
letter keys, and so on.

I don't know if TypeSmith was developed a great deal or even at
all after that special edition, anybody know if the "latest" full version
would read in the fonts correctly?

If my Amiga can't do this Sad((, can anybody point me to some
(freeware!!!) program for Windoze/Linux that can convert me the font.

TypeSmith 2.5b even in the regular edition has trouble with the
extended character set (codes 128-255) in TrueType fonts -- many
characters are represented by little rectangles. However, PageStream4
with its TrueType filter has no problem using the entire character set
-- so no conversion is needed.

If the document in question is to be output as PostScript, PageStream
converts the TrueType font to a PostScript Type 3 font and downloads
it with the document to the printer or disk file. And there's no
problem there with accented characters -- they all come through as
originally set.

For those w/o PgS4 or who simply want the TTF as Type1 fonts I found
several consistent font sequences common to TTFs imported into TypeSmith
and wrote an ARexx program to sort things out. It moves characters to the
correct positions and preserves their width. It has been a long time since
I've used it so I don't remember if it preserves kerning -- however, most
TTF fonts imported have massively incorrect kerning tables (I've seen ten
values for the same pair) and I normally strip them out completely as soon
as I find a problem.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in these scripts just ask me privately. They
were for personal use, but should be understandable and useful to/for
others.

Regards
