Here's the setup:

A1200, 2C 32F, OS35, 030/50

I create a new document in PS4 (us letter, double sided, no facing pages).
Then I edit the master pages. Next I create a chapter. At this point,
everything is fine. I can edit, type, the whole deal. Now I save the file. The
next Day, I load the file back in. Funny, it does not appear on the recent
list. Once loaded, it shows the default page 1/- with master page objects
correctly placed. Here's the fun part: I try to go to the first chapter, using
the go to page gadget, and PS locks up. Not only can I not do anything with
it, I can't get to my work.

Any thoughts?

Well met and godspeed,

Well, I have played around with chapters and loading/saving and havn't been
able to reproduce a problem. Loading/saving problems are top priority
around here, but I can't always find an answer! Sometimes documents just
get currupted (either via some arcane bug in PageStream that takes just the
right steps or some kind of media error).

If you want to send me the document in question, I can at least determine
if the document is good or not, and then if it is good, figure out how to
get it loaded (assuming it doesn't load for me, which sometimes they just
need a good scare Smile

It may be a result of my system configuration. A1200 030/30 WB3.5 2MbCHIP
32MbFAST

I can actually reproduce the problem without ever saving the document. If I go
to the master pages after creating chapters, I can not exit back to a chapter.
It locks up when I press ok.

Another thing I've noticed. If I create a complex page (about 100 lines, 50
text boxes) and save it, I get a file that is 1.2meg or thereabouts. To reload
it takes about 5 minutes, but if I save it again after reloading, the file
size goes down to about 130k, which is a bit better. I figure it must have
something to do with how ps allocates memory to define an object when its
first created or something like that. Is there any way to perform a sort of
garbage collection that would eliminate the 1.2 meg file save?

I've noticed that large numbers of text frames are a problem in
PageStream 4. With 30 frames on a page (as for Avery #5160 labels).
just linking the frames takes a long time -- many seconds for
each link as you get toward the end. And flowing text into these
frames for the first time takes upwards of five minutes, even with
a 40 MHz 68030. But if that text is deleted, the next block of text
will flow quickly into place. And if the template is saved and re-
opened, text will now flow smoothly into it from the start.
