Just noticed that SOME fonts, when made italic in PageStream documents, don't remain italic when rendered as a PDF via PageStream. Others do.

Is there any reason or predictability to which fonts will render italics properly in PDF renders?

Hi Brent,

You say some fonts, but which ones? I've never seen this problem myself, though for cases where I use italics there isn't much variety in what I use (predominately Arial and Times Roman).

Does it print the italics? Conceivably there is a case where PgS doesn't embed the italicized font, just the base font. Did you select the italics font for the typeface or specify italics styling?

What software are you using to view the PDF? Maybe the PDF is correct, but the viewer doesn't like something about it.

Without steps to reproduce, can you provide a sample PDF? Deron would be the obvious place to send it, but I'd be happy to take a look myself.

PageStream Pro 5.0.5.8 on Windows 7 Pro 64 bits (Dutch), Python 2.7.2 and PySide 1.1.0
AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 215 Processor at 2.70 GHz and 4 GB RAM

Difficult to say without more information.
Could be any number of reasons, such as:
* you used a font that is not one of the base 14;
* you did not embed the font and the viewer does not have access to the non-standard font;
* you used a font that Pagestream has access to but the system doesn't;
* the ppd (postscript printer definition) might be to blame;
* a corrupt font.

The Amiga Pagestream Intellifonts had a real issue with Italicized Triumvirate. There was no actual italicized Triumvirate in the font face, and while it would style the font as oblique and print it to a non-postcript printer, it simply could not be made to correctly embed the font. I tried everything including a custom ppd file, but no go. There was some fault in Pagestream's internal handling of the Triumvirate Intellifont.

It would be helpful to know your version of Pagestream and your OS.

I see elsewhere you indicate that "...I'm using 5.0.8.5 for Windows." Others may also want to be reminded which version of Windows.
