I've had PageStream 5 for several months now and I've never been able to use it. It starts up with no problem, but when I try to load an old file or start a new one nothing happens. It shows all the tools and everything looks normal, except there is no page there; nothing to work on.

I'm still using PS4, which works fine, but after paying for PS5 it's getting frustrating.

What platform are you running, and what version? My initial guess would
be that you need to delete (or edit) your PageStream5.ini file (if on
Windows, or PageStream5.prefs on Mac). PageStream5.0.5.9 should not be
having this problem, but that is only out for OS X as of right now.

I can't even get it to open. The pointer goes busy for a while and then
nothing. Windows XP SP3 32bit.

BTW, the Survey feedback form on pagestream.net seems to be broken; the
recaptcha never works and everything you type into the form is lost when
you go back to try again.

Pete, I was hoping that you gave us more details on what you had done
already.

At least that you did delete the PageStream5.ini (PGS then acts like it
is the first time on your computer - a brandnew install).
Unlike PGS4, PGS5 installs that PageStream5.ini at another place on your
computer:

> (from:http://www.pagestream.org/?action=Documents&id=82)

While PageStream4.ini is in the folder PageStream\UserPrefs.
So both are THE preference files with, subtle, different names (4 and 5).

For your information: I did use PGS (4 and 5) on XP and use it on
Windows 7. No problems like you have on XP (or maybe I did, but cured it
fast by deleting the preference file).

This is on a machine that has never seen PSG before. It just doesn't
run. I don't know why. I tried disabling AV and it made no difference.
I'll try the ini thing, but I doubt it will help.

You mentioned in your first email that you can run PageStream and the
menu/palettes all open, but you can't create a new document/open an
existing document.

That is an almost 100% indicator that the preference file is hosed.
