PageStream's performance when using the border selection dialog is abysmal. A significant improvement would be obtained by caching the bitmap display.

Is it in the drop down menu that scrolls in the edit palette? or the dialog that opens when you click the FX button in the edit palette??

sorry I wasn't more specific -- it is in the dialog from the FX palette. The other, being text only, does not suffer the problem. Nor does it allow setting the color.

I'm on a recent iMac -- it isn't the system being slow, that's for sure. If it were being cached on linux I would expect it to be cached on OS X. From an interaction point of view it sure seems like it is the rendering of the borders that is the issue, but maybe not.

As I am on 10.8.2 it might bear checking on older versions. My memory says it is slow there as well, but it is far from perfect.

Whatever the root cause, it makes PgS /very/ slow and not-fun to work with.

Hi Tim!

Sorry for the delay in answering this (and other) emails.

What platform are you running on? Do you have many extra borders installed?

this is os x, 10.8.2. Yes, there are all the pgs borders, all I've done and released plus some others. At least one is highly and displaying it is noticeably slower than others. But it is unreasonably slow on OS X -- this is a new iMac versus on linux running on several year old processor. And on linux, as someone pointed out, the performance is fine.
