Hi

How do I show the Edit Palette?

Reason: I recently installed PGS for Windows on my new laptop inserted
into a docking station. Everything appeared to work fine.

Now the laptop is removed from the docking station and I use it as a
regularly laptop. Now trying to start PGS on the laptop screen (probably
wider but not as high as the screen connected to the laptop) only shows
the toolbar and toolbox. However, the Edit Palette normal shown below
the window is gone.

Using the menu Window -> Hide/Show Edit Palette accomplishes absolute
nothing.

So ... how do I show the Edit Palette on my laptop screen?

PGS 5.0.5.8 Pro for Windows.

The save palette position functionality has the palette in the position that is now offscreen. What you need to do is reset that information.

Not at a computer to check and memory is weak, but there may be a menu item for that. If not, it is stored in the prefs file and removing the relevant line works for a reset. Failing that, removing the prefs file will effectively reset that (and other things).

Try resizing either the document window or the overall PGS window or
both - I`m sure I`ve hit this before with a `too big` window but I can`t
remember which I had to resize to `find` it again?

Yes, I thought something like this.

I have tried resizing the windows.

Where do I find the prefs file on Windows?

Since I am ofte in and out of my docking station, this seems a bit
annoying.

PageStream is absolutely GREAT n this respect!!!!

It takes no account of where and particular version of Windows has
changed IT`S preferred location for data whatsoever and keeps it with
the rest of the PGS (which of course means that you can have several
different versions of PGS functioning on your machine without them
interfering with one another).

Which means that it is wherever you have your actual PGS installation
(probably where Windows pointed when you did the instal but if you chose
a different drive than C: then it will be there!)

Hello Uffe,

the fastest way is removing your PageStream5.ini file.

Where it is you can find this here:
http://www.pagestream.org/?action=Documents&id=82
So, at: C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\PageStream5\ (you have to
find out what your {username} is.
Or do a search from your C: drive, and search for PageStream5.ini
Eh, you need to see all the extensions like ini, exe, etc.

After deleting PageStream5.ini, you can start PGS again. You have to
fill in all what PGS needs to be a personal PGS again, and not a demo
program.

You may rename your PageStream5.ini file to PageStream5Old.ini, so PGS
doesn't recognize it. But then you got all the information you need to
restore your favorite PGS!

What's the prefs file called on Windows.

I can find a PageStream5.rsc but none with 'prefs' or anything like
that.

The RSC file does not seem to include a window position.

Thanks. When I finally learned that the AppData folder was a hidden
folder, the prefs file was easily found and edited.

Wonder what to do to make it easy plugging the laptop in and out of the
docking station.

Still be a bit annoying, but rename your old .ini file to something like
pagestream5.ini.dock and your new one to something like
pagestream5.ini.undock. Then you can create two script files with icons
called "Dock.bat" and Undock.bat or something similar that will copy the
appropriate file to PageStream5.ini which you can run when you dock the
machine or undock it. I'd put these on the desktop.

The default should be aligned to the bottom, no matter what the screen
size. So remove the pref item and never move it by hand. Or, you can
enter in negative numbers as I recall that will offset it from the
bottom instead of the top.
