Is it connected via the usb or on a network? if it is a net work then the firewall may be blocking access.
Can he reach the administration page from a browser?

Hi Steve and Rodney

A solution which costs you: go for a new Windows.
Windows XP is flaky if you use a network printer. And XP is no longer
supported by Windows.

I don't know about Windows 8 (and its behavior with PGS!), but if you
can get a copy (legal) of Windows 7, you be surprised how good that works.
Windows works with tiles, and has no start up (or how that is called),
with which you can start a program (from left bottom).
Now I know that there are programs with which you can implement that again.

I did check connection, but he said it was printer cable assuming its USB,
all other windows programs print just fine, saving as .pdf from
Pagestream then printing works...

Hi Rodney and Steve,

you cannot attach anything in a thread in this forum. You have to send
it privately.

Can you convert the PPD to PDF? (see
https://www.google.com/search?q=ppd+to+pdf+converter&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:nlSurprisedfficial&client=firefox-a)
If that is correct (more or less), than you have a working printer...
for ppd (and PGS). You (or Steve) know that the printer works for other
applications.

I have no clue about solving your problem, but if the ppd to pdf works,
you have a way around it, and can print. If the pdf prints...

Theo

Hi Rodney,

I think you (or I did cause you to) confuse some things.

If you can make a pdf with a program that makes from ppd (= some kind of
PostScript) a pdf, you can print only the pdf (this is the work around!).
You are never going to print a postscript directly from an application
in Windows XP (or 7 or Cool to a non-PostScript printer. I think that is
only possible with an Apple (though not sure).
Far hidden in my memory Wink , I think there was a way to print a ppd
directly to a non PostScript printer (and yes, I did that, if it is
true, with XP). Maybe somebody has a better memory!

So, you make a ppd with PGS, transform it to pdf, and print that (pdf):
your or Steve's workaround.

Theo - is aging, or too lazy (the last is preferable)

I see, Pagestream made .pdf just fine though, just also adds extra step to
the print process

I use a network printer (Epson with built in Postscript) with XP without
problems. (But I don't have Pagestream on that machine.)

It also works with Pagestream on Amithlon and with a G3 Mac(various
programs).

XP still receives regular security updates from Microsoft.

There is some confusion here. A ppd file is some Postscript code that
defines the properties of the printer.

I think you are thing of a .ps file, which contains your actual work in
Potscript code. I trhink the ppd file may be embedded in it, if you
select it.

Hi Don,

I meant that it works on one XP-computer, and it refuses to work on
another XP-computer.
