By now everyone should have received a notice of being added to the new
mailing lists at egroups.com.

Enjoy! (This is mostly a test message to see if everything is flying ok now!)

I'm still trying to get the main mailing list set up. It might take a
couple more days (Tuesday?) before it is all up. I created the group
"pagestream", then realized that I should have named it "PageStream" so I
deleted my first mailing list. It deleted it, but won't let me create one
named "PageStream" or even the old "pagestream". Says the list already
exists (but of course a search doesn't turn it up etc). Sigh...

Otherwise, the general list will get named "PageStreamGeneral" or something
equally stupid...

See ya!

got it here. hope this list works better... btw: when is r6 due out? Back to
the grind! ;^))))))))))))))))))))))))

also, for the record I would buy PPC version of PgS whether it was MorphOS,
WarpOS, linux or whatever -- though I guess it might not see any
improvement unless it ran under a native PPC OS. Any more thoughts on
making the libraries open source? I'd take a shot at it myself (for X)
until I took a good look at what it takes for programming under X ;^)

Good timing -- I was just about to ask you to change my email address for
this list. Instead, I made the change myself at the web site.

Whatever stupid name you end up with, I'd suggest something short.
PageStreamAmigaBeta@egroups.com is a big mouthful. Smile

Hey, you're at 40,0000 feet!

What about the PageStreamPCBeta ML? I'd like to be on that as well if
possible. Thankx

Has anybody succeeded in downloading the latest revision from Haage
Partner?

I have tried about a dozen times, but each time the download repeatedly
fails and if I use Resume I get a corrupt file. Each attempt produces a
file with a different length.

I download lots of stuff, including plenty of big files, and am having
no problems with other sites. (And Resume always works with other
sites).

Is there perhaps another site I could access to get this file?

No need to ask Deron for help on this anymore -- you can sign up for any
of the beta lists at eGroups' web site:

http://www.egroups.com/group/PageStreamWindowsBeta
http://www.egroups.com/group/PageStreamMacintoshBeta

You can also do it the traditional way by sending mail to
PageStreamWindowsBeta-subscribe@egroups.com.

Have u tried maybe excellent HTTP-Resume little program (written by my friend)? It
worked perfectly in 99% cases. Only once it failed to download TheRipper
magazine last year from the server, but it was up to server, not to program...

I might try that, but Voyager's Resume does work very well. I think the
problem is at or near the server in this case.

I did try HTTP-resume, and it did work. There must be some disagreement
between Voyager and the server at Haage.

It failed several times as before, but HTTP-R picked up correctly.

If you see Andrija tell him it works.

Thanks for the suggestion. The Support guy at Haage and I were getting
annoyed with one another.

and see how it goes from there.

Because Deron can't accept credit cards at present. Sending money across
the Atlantic any other way is expensive.

Anyway, I managed in the end with a program called HTTP-resume, from
Aminet. There seemed to be some incompatability between Voyager and
Haage's site, although the Support guy there assured me that he had
downloaded with Voyager several times. But he was using ISDN in Germany,
I'm on a voice line in the UK.

>start with porting yourself or open sourcing?

Problem is that I just can't see how open source will benefit SoftLogik in
the short term. Of course it's cool, but what about the consequences? As
far as source reliability goes, the Internet has been a complete disaster
so far, and some are even comparing our era to the medieval times, when you
could never be sure about the authorship of a written document.

In the medieval times, the problem was limited to books. Today, a very
similar problem (with online documents, etc.) could extend to program code.
Do we really want this to happen? As users, we already have to cope with
half-functional betas daily because it has become common practice. Open
source would make things a lot more complex for the original developer
without necessarily adding choice for the end-user.

That said, maybe I missunderstand the term "open source" here. If that's
the case (and I'm pretty sure it is), I'd appreciate any useful comments
about this.

Thanks in advance!

The obvious bits to make Open Source are filters and drivers, where you
might hope that people would write new ones based on your examples.

The ProDraw converter program would be another candidate, as this would
allow ProDraw clips to be imported into other programs or a Datatype to
be written. In fact, I would suggest starting with that one.

But responses vary. Lots of people have written tools and accessories
for Bars and Pipes, which is not OS but has good developer docs freely
available. OTOH only one person AFAIK has written anything for
ImageMaster, which has every possible facility for adding new image
processing modules.

The release of DOpus 4 has resulted in the fixing of several
long-standing bugs. Developer docs alone can't do this - the actual
source has to be available.

Ah, a common factor. I have been meaning to write to the list to see if
anyone had successfully d/loaded using Voyager. I have tried on any number
of occasions over the last few weeks. In that time I have tried with
V3.2, 3.1 and prev ver. of V

Last night tried again. What happens is if you shift click it "waits" to
determine size and then fails. If you don't shift click, you get
(as one would expect) garbage on screen as it tries to display the file.
This happens only with the Amiga version. The Mac version d/ls OK.

I have been getting a little frustrated at attempting to d/l, esp seeing
others have obviously had success.

I am d/l from Softlogik site, have succeeded with the prev ver r03 (?) I
think but not the current one.

Try using the right mouse button. I've been doing that with every
version of V. since the early V3 beta's. I haven't tried at the
Softlogik site, since I'm just waiting for my CD at this point. (I'm
still at 4.0r2) Just right lick on the file, scroll up to "Download
file" with the right mouse button still down, then release right mouse
button.

Good luck!

Paul

I sent the following message to the list a week or so ago - before the
change to eGroups - and I don't think it ever arrived so I am reposting.

--------------

Can anyone tell me if there are any HP drivers included with Amiga
Pagestream
(version 4r2) that will work with the HP 722C ink jet printer?

And if not - does Wolf Faust's Studio have a driver, or Turbo Print? And
where could either of these be purchased?

Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I had forgotten about that one.

It didn't work however, at least not on the main archive. It did work
on the archive without the help files. Go figure!

Thanks again.

I have the same problem with IBrowse2.2. I can only download the file
without the help files. It will not install correctly. A direct file copy
did not help either becasue now PS or PDF saves are broken. The machine
will GURU 80000006 every time.

I wish they would get this fixed. I really need this program for work. I
have a entire newsletter that is set to go to the printers but I can't save
it.

A way to get around this install problem is first unarchive r3, and
then unarchive revision5 without the helpfiles to the same
destination. One of the install scripts now works (sorry, I forgot if
the installer from r3 worked, or the one from r5, best would be to
copy the install script from your r3 to some safe place first, and try
them both. I have had no gurus after I installed it this way. A more
involved way would be to fix the install-script for r5 without help
files. I can see if I could do that, if people are interested?
