Hi PageStreamers,

I have a big problem to find some settings...

I need to make a text with the same characteristics as Word has.
Those are:
- Font : Times New Roman (on my miggy the font is bolder, why?)
- Space between the lines : 1.5 (What % is that?)
- Justified (This works fine)
- The distance between the characters is different (why?)

I hope someone can help me out, cause otherwise my girlfriend will kill me (I should have to rework about 350 formatted pages in Word, bah)

If someone has the correct font, please send it, I need the

You are probably setting the text in CS Times, which is slightly
different from the font in the PC or Mac or the printer (see
below).

>- Space between the lines : 1.5 (What % is that?)

You'll have to experiment to find out. It might be 150%, and it
might not.

>- Justified (This works fine)

Because you are not using the precisely same font as the original.
Even where font names are identical, it does not mean that the
fonts are identical. Anybody can whip up a font and call it
"Times New Roman".

If the font was resident in the PC or Mac and the original printing
was done to a non-PostScript printer, then you'll have to get a copy
of the exact font that was used. If the original printing was to a
PostScript printer, then if you send your PostScript file to that same
printer, with the right font callout, then it should come out exactly
the same. But to another "PostScript" printer with perhaps a different
version of Times New Roman in it, it may still be different.

IIRC, this is an older method Word used. Basically, it's 1 1/2 times the
current text size (actually, the size of the largest font on the line,
but...) I'd use 150% or set it to 6pts & should be okay.

I have billion fonts but not that one. Sorry.

Anyway, I have other question:

As these days I'm working very hard for students, typing & printing diplomatic
works. But I'm often getting calls by phone from various ppl if I can JUST
PRINT them documents they did in WORD.

Any ideas - can any program on Amiga convert WORD document or import in
PageStream or whatever? Is there any way they can bring me document on
diskette and I can import & print it from my HPLaserJet printer?

I have here WordConverter (found on Aminet) but once I tried it, it converted
it well just text. But not all - just 80% of the document... Any ideas? The
rest I had to re-type...

What if Word doc. have pictures inside?

I think WordConverter does a pretty good job. However, I think also that the
unregistered version will possibly only convert part of the file. Another
thing you might try (regarding graphics in the file) is converting it to RTF
and hope that will save something more than just the font styles.

The full registered version of the Word Converter does the whole doc and
will output RTF.

I don't think any program on any platform can import that. I believe
there are also problems importing to Mac Word if the original was on PC.

Get them to send the pics as separate files.

Maybe they could export from Word as HTML? That would save the pics as
files. And they can export the text as RTF.

G'day Don Cox,

On the subject of "[PageStreamAmigaBeta] Re: Word problem...", you spoke
thus:

Doesn't RTF support embedded graphics?

I get this (Word) problem all the time ie. documents e-mailed to me in
.doc format - if I ask them to re-send in RTF or better still PDF, most
people don't know what I'm talking about. <shrug>

Aha! Thanx! As I have never used (or even seen) Word, even whole town here
is using it, I don't know nothing about what documents Word can export, but
you said about RTF:

Can I import RTF in PageStream? What will happen with pictures if there are in
original Word doc? And what will happen if there are mathematic formuals? And
tables?

(I guess I'll only get... text... or error ;)
