Hi I`m using pagestream 4r8 and trying to create a postscriptfile
with cymk pciture data. But it always failt only RGB. All pictures
of the pagestream document are tiff cmyk and I got a ppd file from
my printing-office with actived cmyk but this ppd-file contains a
line which produce a damaged ps file

*LanguageLevel: "2" if level 2 is set only the first picture of
the document is correct and a cymk but the ps -output stops
with an error message when the 2nd picture should be displayed.

I also tryed the linotronic930 driver with cmyk settings and
*LanguageLevel: "1" but then all is RGB again.
Any help is welcome

bye

Mike

I may have an answer for you. Load the file PostScript.prolog (found in
softlogik:printers) and look for the following bit of code:

%
% xscale yscale xoffset yoffset pixelw pixelh bitsperpixel BEGINCMYKBITMAP -
%
/BeginCMYKBitmap {
save 8 1 roll /bpp xdef /h xdef /w xdef
scl translate scale /picstr 8 bpp idiv dup w 3 mul add 1 sub exch idiv
string def
w h bpp [w 0 0 h neg 0 h] {currentfile picstr readhexstring pop}bind
false 4 colorimage
}bdef

You will see it contains a "3 mul" in it. Change that to "4 mul". It
_shouldn't_ make a difference, but it seemed to here.

Let me know if this makes a difference to you!

I noticed that a PDF file I just output does not render gradients, it just
shows them as solid colors. The gradient was applied within PGS and is
a 100% to 50% gradient of a PMS color. Outputting to an eps file and using
Adobe Distiller produces the correct image. Also I agree with previous
posts that a status gauge for PDF output is necessary; it's too easy to
think nothing is happening.

PDF output is darned handy, though, as would be PDF import.

Also I notice that a select-all with "R-Amiga A" hangs up the computer
on the project I'm working on now (24 text boxes + several dozen objects
in various rotations on a page). This project (begun in an earlier version)
seems to load and save much more slowly, too. I've not had a chance to
start a new project solely using the new version to see if the problem
is caused by some carry-over.

There are a handful of things that PageStream doesn't support in PDF output
(they are not supported in PDF output). Line ends/arrows and gradients are
the most notable.

Already added for the next version.

If you can send me this document to support@softlogik.com, I'll give it a
try myself. I can't think of anything that would cause this!

Is there a way to export an eps file with spot PMS colors that will be
read as PMS spot colors on other platforms? I just got a proof back from
the printer and all the colors were converted to process by their system.
I did a quick test PGS spot color eps imported into Mac Illustrator and
Illustrator spot color eps imported into PGS, and all the spot colors were
converted to process on both sides.

Bummer.

As you probably know, everybody with the latest high-end Scitex imagesetter
wants to output, trap and impose the job by themselves, so I hardly ever
send negatives to anybody anymore, but what can I do to use spot colors?

I am making businesscards which I have to send to my friend's pc. Is there a
solution for printing into cmyk file from PageStream?

When I choose color print into file it generates an RGB IFF file. I can
convert it into cmyk and then save as a tiff in BME but it gives far more
poor result as when I'm printing with process separation. In this case
Pagestream makes 4 greyscale IFF files - each represents a c, m, y, and k
plate.

So I would like to join them into one cmyk file.

Any suggestions? (If it is not possible with my Amiga, could someone please
explain, how is it possible with Photoshop 4? a step-by-step tutorial
wouldn't hurt in any way Smile))))

The only program I know of on the Amiga that can do this is ImageMaster,
long discontinued. But you could check ImageFX too.

In Photoshop, make a new file in CMYK image mode, the same size in
pixels as your separations. Show the Channels palette.

Load in your separations. For each, select all, then copy and paste into
the corresponding channel of your new file. Save as TIF or whatever.

Most likely, you just need to load the RGB into Photoshop to convert to
CMYK, instead of using BME. Otherwise, try printing to disk as an EPS, and
then load and process it using Ghostscript.
