Greetings List...

I recently sent the following mail to the address below, and, as yet,
I have not had an answer....

support@grasshopperllc.com

So, I'm now posting it to the list.

I've added a few more questions since I wrote it, as I'm still having
some trouble. Even though there were no warnings when installing, I
suspect something is wrong.

The problems are:

`Help' only seems to work sporadically, ie. it starts and loads the
square PGS image and the word PageStream next to it, and then sits
there with a Busy pointer, completely frozen. This means I have to
re-boot.

Or it starts with the arrows, etc., at the top, and nothing is loaded
nor do any of the arrows work. This also freezes everything. Re-boot
necessary.

Or it loads the images, ie. PGS, BME, HHV, PageLiner and the couple
at the top, Help with Help and Contact (I think) but none of the
arrows work nor does clicking on either the image or text of any of
the above do anything. Re-boot necessary.

Trying to load in a plain text file pops up a requester claiming that
the file is not of the required type. (or something similar) I've
tried with and without a frame. Any clues?

*---- start original mail ----*

I've downloaded my reg'd version of PageStream 4.0.9 and installed it
for the first time. Filled in all my details and they show OK when
loading. Now I have some questions which I hope you can help me with.

Firstly - how the heck do you start PageStream? The old v3.0 manual
states, double clicking on the PageStream icon starts it. Well, there
is no icon for PageStream!!

There are icons for BME, HHV and PageLiner, but none for PageStream!!

The `installation log' shows the above 3 icons being copied but none
for PGStream. It's most probably logical to you, but it isn't to me.

I've added an icon, but I have no idea what stack should be used, any
clues?

Having a look around my system I discovered dozens of files installed
that I assume I don't need such as a few meg of foreign dictionaries,
dozens of printer drivers, etc. Is it safe to delete these?

I have a Canon BJC 4200 inkjet and I couldn't find a specific driver
in the installation - is there one available?

I use Wolf Faust's Canon Studio `CanonBJ-EC' driver as my standard
system printer driver, and I always have Canon Studio running in the
background when I am going to be doing any fancy printing. Would I be
safe in assuming PGStream will use the above driver OK, ie. can I set
it up in PGS prefs to use it?

I've selected it as the PGS `Preferences' driver.

Canon Studio has a driver specifically for PageStream 3.0i but this
is for a very old version of PGS. Is there an up-date available?

The old v3 manual states that no more printer drivers will be made
available. Has anything altered in the interim?

My old reg'd version of PGS was v3.0 and the manual is huge. As there
has been a number of version and revisions since v3.0, are there some
addendums or appendix files available for this much later version I
now have? If so, how do I obtain them - and the cost?

Pleas don't tell me the `ReadMe.Now' file explains all. It's the most
convoluted document I've ever read. (well, tried to read!) Cool

Along with my old v3.0 I also have `TextFX Amiga v3.0h2' disks 1 & 2.
Will these have any conflicts with PGS v4.0.9 that I should know
about?

As this was my first full installation of PageStream, (any version) I
am wondering about the assigns made in my `User-Startup'...

Assign PageStream: "ZIP0RazzageStream"
Assign PageStream3: "ZIP0RazzageStream"
Assign PageStream4: "ZIP0RazzageStream"
Assign SoftLogik: "PageStream:SoftLogik"
Assign Fonts: "PageStream:SoftLogik/Fonts" ADD

With only one version installed, why are there three assigns for PGS
itself?

I think I understand the last two assigns, it's the first three that
have me baffled. Can I get an explanation on why three assigns are
necessary, and not just one, ie. PageStream: or PageStream4: ?

BTW... as the above shows, I've installed PageStream on a ZIP disk.
Is there any way I can boot with another ZIP disk in the drive and
not be bothered with the `Please put PageStream in any drive'
requester at boot up? If so, what changes should I make to the above
assigns?

*ADDED: I've written a script to do the above and added an icon with*
*C:IconX as the `Default Tool' which I double-click to before starting*
*PageStream.*

There's most probably dozens mere Q's that I need to ask, but these
will do for now.

That's the trouble with living way down-under in Australia, things
(and information) are hard to come by.

Thanks in advance.

no idea.

you could try my replacement help scripts from my homepage which use
voyager, ibrowse, aweb or htmlview instead of hhv. this should help.
(ups... did i upload the latest versions? don't think so. but they
need some more minutes to work at...)

i just checked the installation archive:
the icon is really missing. i'll send it to you privately.

deron?

you can. if you don't use them and will never use them (but who
knows...)

don't think so.

don't know. i'm sure that there is a newer version of the
documentation available (complete manual) but i don't have it. i bever
received it.

but some of the new features are explained in the online help Wink
and in the readme file.

nope. just install them. i'm not 100% sure but there may be an update
on pagestreams homepage. if you are registered you maybe can get it
from the secure site.

delete the pagestream3: assign. the rest is essential.

try a DEFER as parameter of the assign command. don't know if this
helps.

so did i as i have v 4.0.9 and v4.0.7 installed here as 4.0.9 cannot
play my arexx scripts correctly.

>`Help' only seems to work sporadically,

Try running HHV from the desktop. Then go to file->system prefs->fonts and
make sure you have your font paths set. Perhaps that is all the problem?
While your at it make sure you have your screen dpi set properly in system
prefs->screen.

Someone else had the same problem, and I can't find my icon either on the
online archive. I'm no where near an Amiga, but this has happened before.
I'm not sure what my computers have against that icon... If someone will
email me the icon at support@grasshopperllc.com, I'll put it online for
others to download, and when I get back to reality I'll check out my
masters and my Amiga.

Doesn't matter. PageStream will force a minimum stack size that is
necessary. However, give it has much as you like!

Yes. Or copy them to "disabled" directories. Hey, this is starting to sound
familiar. I probably already answered these in private Smile Yup, I know I've
seen this before. If not, I hope you got my dejavu answer Wink
