Hm.... I'd never really used that Create Text Frames menu item before. I
guess that, like a lot of folks, I tend to learn new Pagestream features as
I need them. Anyway, that menu item almost lets me do what I need. I'd like
to be able to create a text frame of a certain size and position, and then
tell the program, "Okay, put this box in this position on all subsequent
pages." But it doesn't seem that Create Text Frames allows that level of
control.

Well, I'm having trouble finding a tool that does everything I want! Wink We
just had a baby (our first!) I made her birth announcements in PgS and they
turned out beautifully -- I'll send you one, in fact. Then, I made up
stationery for all the thank you notes for baby gifts we've gotten. We
purchased fancy paper from a paper store, but it's an odd size -- 6.25 x 9
inches, I think. I tried setting the note stationery up in Wordworth and
Final Writer, but in both cases I couldn't get those programs (printing to
a postscript file and then to my Deskjet via TurboPrint's excellent, GNU
Ghostscript support) to line things up properly on this oddly sized paper
-- no matter what I did, things were skewed off kilter, as if (I think) I
was printing on letter size paper. But Pagestream worked fine -- I set up
the paper size in PgS and selected "Custom" size in TurboPrint prefs, and
all's well.

But now I've run into the limitation you mentioned: PgS isn't really set up
for this kind of project: stationery in which each page is a new
"document," and you need an unlinked text box on each page. So, I do have
to somewhat laboriously add a text box by hand to each new page. At least
the logo and border of the stationery can be master page elements, though.

Sure! But my last post on that list (about the spellchecker crashing on me
on exit) was ignored, so I thought that perhaps I was on the wrong list, or
that I was being shunned for only using 3.4 b 9. Wink

thanks for listening,

Steve

I have no idea if this is possible, but is PageStream's ARexx support good
enough then you must be able to do what you want by a bit of ARexx coding.

Nor have I followed the thread, so what I say might have been mentioned
before.

It seems to me that it does exactly what you want. The only odd thing
is that the box size is specified by giving the distance from the edge
of the page on each side. To me it would make more sense to give the top
corner position, then width and height.

But you can tell it what pages the box is to be on, and whether or
not it is to be linked.

(This is all in 4.09)

?? You can create unlinked frames on multiple pages using Create Text
Frames in one shot!

If what he wants to do is take an _existing_ text frame, and have it
duplicated onto other pages, then yes, PageStream's Arexx support will do
it fine! In fact, it can be done at least two different ways.

Also, he can use 4.1's new transform across pages to get the job done as well.

Hey there, Steven Folberg

If you want x number of pages of blank text frames, use
"Create Text Frames," insert the page numbers in the requestor
(From and To) and uncheck "Link Frames."

You must set the dimensions of your frames on the Master Page
Setup first.

If you want to put separate documents on each page but import
them from a single file, leave the page numbers blank and check
"Link Frames," import your file, then at the end of each file
select "Insert >> Page Break" in the "Type" menu. If you want
the frame unlinked, you can do that before moving to the next
document by selecting "Unlink Text Frames" at that point.
