That must have been the problem. As a test, I sent the files to my office PC
via the YAM e-mailer...

No, I think you've nailed it. And Steve Bowman, in another post, explained
how to configure YAM's MIME types to handle PDF's...

I thought I read of some alternative way to embed non-standard postscript
fonts in a PDF document on this list... something involving ghostscript,
perhaps?...

Not cropped, IIRC, but resized in PgS much smaller than the original, which
was very large. Is that also not supported in PDF output?

Yes, you can resize graphics for PDF output. That shouldn't be a problem!
