Thanks for all the help.
I have a red face. It was not Amiga Forever; it was with Amithlon
and Windows XP.
Yes I have all the assigns but Amithlon ignores them.
If I put them in the shell just before calling PGS, everything is
OK. until I reboot.
Then I have to do it again. I have tried putting the assigns into
the Startup-sequence instead.
It makes no difference.

Weird: innit?

I think you have more than one Workbench partition, and the User-startup
that you are editing is not the one you are booting with.

If I use the Workbench shell and do:-
execute system:s/user-startup

Pagestream boots up without demur. Otherwise I get a snoopdos:-
ramlib failure at line 7: the problem being that the startup does not find Softlogik:libs_os.library although
a check with Dopus shows it to be there.

There is another partition with the same content but it is named differently. Just to be on the safe side I have copied the S drawer
so that they are both the same.

Still no joy!

I didn't have this trouble with Windows 98SE, so I cannot see that that is the problem.
I think I'll have to put an icon on the workbench to do a last minute assign before I load PGS

Further research using Snoopdos reveals a ramlib failure to process Softlogik: etc
I don't know what this means; but if I assign softlogik again at this point, all is OK until a reboot.

I think I'll go back to blocks of stone and a hammer and chisel!!

Workaround: put the assigns into a script that ends with running the
program (Pagestream).

You can run the script from a shell, or do whetever the latest version of
IconX is to execute it from the workbench.

Hi Steven,

It sounds like you are still booting into the ramdisk image. This will
change and retain any changes until you reboot the PC, when it returns to
the original settings.

You need to set up an AmigaOS bootable partition on your hard drive (see
www.amithlon.net for details) before you can use Amithlon properly.

Bill Hoggett

Hello Don

DC I think you have more than one Workbench partition, and the User-startup
DC that you are editing is not the one you are booting with.

Why not write a script that does the assigns and then Pagestream.
Add an icon, add the S to the protect, and Iconx as a default tool

Regards
Dennis

I have tried several times to set up a bootable partition with Windows98SE without success.
Now that I have Windows XP, I hesitate to try again. I use a bootable floppy. If you have any
useful tips, I would love to have them privately.
As to the ramdisk image; I cannot find this on the ramdisk.
I'm not very well up into AMIGA programming these days. At 77 yrs old my memory has let me down.
It's been such a long time.

The only problem with this is that it would still leave the Amithlon not reading the startup-sequence etc.
As I have said elsewhere, I do have another partition with the same files as the system partition.
However, I've made sure that the partitopns are identical. The is no other startup-sequence on my drives.
I'm completely baffled.
According to snoopdos, the assigns for pagestream have been accepted; it is only the softlogik assign that is ignored.

I'm very grateful for all the help I've received and glad to draw this off-topic to a close.
I do not know what has happened (unless it is an answer to prayer) but the
problem with the assigns has cleared up of itself.

I thought that I would have a last try to sort it out but it had already done so!

Perhaps a good nights sleep was all it wanted?

I have my PageStream drawer on a partition named APPS. Here are
my assigns in my user-startup:

;BEGIN PageStream
assign PageStream: APPSRazzageStream
assign PageStream3: PageStream:
assign PageStream4: PageStream:
assign SoftLogik: PageStream:SoftLogik
run >nil: PageStreamRazzageLiner
;END PageStream

This works for me. You can leave out the last line if you don't
want PageLiner running all the time. I use PageLiner for all
kinds of things.

You have probably now read my reply stating that the problem has cleared of itself.
Quite a mystery. However, all's well that ends well! I Hope.

Here, PageStream runs very well and fast on my Amithlon (Athlon XP 1500)
Does your startup-sequence launch the user-startup?

As do I. So far I use it to edit some emails before "forwarding" them;
editing text files for future inclusion in PageStream; and editing text
files for posting onhttp://www.blessedcause.org where we use something
called BB-Code for formatting the posts. I launch PageLiner in my
WBStartup drawer. I was wondering if someone could tell me the offsets I
would hex-edit to change the position of the minimized window that opens
on startup. I'd like to drop it down, oh, four or five pixels because as
it is it blocks part of the ChipRAM readout on my Workbench titlebar.
