Hello.

I am new to this mailing list. It's good to know that there are a lot of other people which are using PageStream.

My question is about "Small Caps". When I write a Text like "Test" and select the "k" in the toolpanel I suppose that the "Test" changes to "TEST" with "EST" is a little smaller in size. But this is not. It still stays "Test" but the whole text hight is a little smaller.

I experienced this with the Amiga version 4.1.5.6 and the recent Windows demo version.

May this be a bug or is it my fault?

Thomas

What you were hoping for is "Caps and small caps" -- not an automatic
option in PageStream. To get what you want, you highlight only "est"
and select Small Caps as a style. The exact size of the small caps can be
adjusted via the Small Caps >> button in the Attributes requester.

Well, if it's your fault, then it's my fault, too. I hadn't seen
it yet, but it's going to be a bit of a problem next month when
I do a biennial job that uses them.

I'll have to go through the 4 pages and change the lower case
letters that are set as amall caps to caps.

What he's talking about is that up until ~now, "small caps"
converted selected text to capital letters smaller than regular
caps. With PageStream Amiga v4.1.5.6, what you get is lower case
letters smaller than regular lower case letters.

To do Small Caps properly really needs a specially designed Small Caps
"weight" of the font. The proportions of the characters need to be
adjusted so they look right.

One universal problem is that DTP programs only know about four weights
for each font family; other weights have to be selected as though they
were a different font.
