Another piece of information, in case it is useful:

I have tried out all the fonts that appear in the list in the "fonts"
submenu of the "type" menu. Not all the fonts that are stored in the
pagestream/fonts directory show up in the type/fonts menu selection list.
Of the fonts that do show up, all the Bitstream fonts work, and moviestar
also works. No other fonts work. If I select a working font as the
current font, and then go to the type/fonts menu and select the "choose"
item, the font display window opens up and the current font displays
properly. I can edit the sample text, and that also works correctly,
although there is no way to actually change the font from this window.
Perhaps there is a pattern that you can see in what fonts work?
