Greetings All,

No self-control, had to download 5.0.2.9pro for Amiga PPC.

Download details:
The downloadable file 'PageStream5.0.2.9pro.lha' was 18,419,556
bytes or about 17.566 MB. Going up! On unpacking, the LIST command
gave:

2197 files, 108 directories, 105,140 blocks (~= 51.338 MB)

Startup:
The yellow guru still complains about glyph #126. Left-Click it
away.

Registration:
No problem, and the registration window was looking good. My "User
ID" and 'Password' for 5.0.2.8 worked fine.

Toolbars:
Still open overlapped, but the vertical guy no longer has a 'Close'
gadget and can be moved by grabbing in the title bar. Cannot move
the horizontal toolbar, and have already forgotten the OS4 trick to
do so. The toolbars appear at a pleasant size on the Workbench
screen -- easy to read. The popups -- when the mouse hovers over an
icon -- don't pop! That was a disappointment. Their appearance is
inconsistent. On the last try, they popped up!

The Navigator:
Everything there seems to work, although there are problems with
OPEN. The popups open nicely in the Navigator window. The 'Tips'
window is one line and null, but if you choose 'Prev' or 'Next' you
get the tips. The Navigator window resizes nicely.

New window:
Using 'New' from the Navigator opens a window with its Upper Left
corner at (0,0) but it can be repositioned by grabbing the title
bar. The rulers are readable but the page opens with the 'grid'
showing. Maybe there is a good reason for displaying the grid at
this point. Get rid of it with "Layout -> Hide Grid".

The Example Files:
Both '5.0flyer.pgs' and "Welcome to 5.0.pgs" open now. The "font
substitution" window opens, but just choose 'Done' and the loading
proceeds. In 5.0.2.8 they opened as blank pages. However, as soon as
you engage either of the scroll bars, the display goes nuts and a
refresh with key F10 is needed.

However the resizing gadget (lower right) works but
inconsistently!??!? With '5.0flyer.pgs' it resizes in such a manner
that the entire page remains visible. With "Welcome to 5.0.pgs" it
acts as if one were clipping the page, but not always. Sometimes
the entirety of "Welcome to 5.0.pgs" remains visible. So flakey at
best.

Trying to close these documents does not necessarily work. I chose
to close '5.0flyer.pgs' but instead "Welcome to 5.0.pgs"
disappeared. Once the 'Close' gadget on the window for
'5.0flyer.pgs' does not work, the menu "File -> Close" is ghosted
-- consistent.

I can also open files in ''Documents/DirectTemplates/" and in
"Documents/Home&Office/".

Edit Palettte:
It opens 'tiny' but expands to a reasonable size as soon as you open
a document. It is easily readable and can be moved to wherever you
want it.

Opening a 4.1.5.6 PageStream file:
So far they open -- usually, not always -- as a blank page shortly
followed by a GR report which accuses 'PageStream5Pro' of "an error
of type alignment". I can obtain a Crash log but not sure if Deron
wants the output. "Ignore erros" will send the GR away, but once he
appears, he usually returns shortly. "Continue" also seems to work,
and I can continue with this Email. But let's do a SAVE for safety.

When such a document does open, it is presented as a blank page even
if the "Word count" is given as 9270 words by the 'info' button on
the horizontal toolbar. Wink Where did that Email go that explained
how to 'reveal' text???

Anyway, it is not long before things start to degenerate and the GR
makes an appearance. Once the GR visits it is not long before
things start disappearing -- like icons on the toolbars -- and a
warm reboot is soon required. Doubt if I've been able to stay up
longer than 15 minutes. But that's much better than 5.0.2.8 ! Smile)

Getting better. Good work.

Cheers Don (Green Dragon)

Hello Don

Please tell me, which version of OS4 do you use?
Update#3 or current beta?

That would be from some other installation. Does anyone know about an Amiga
bitmap font editor that runs on OS4 that can fix this? The few 68k apps I
found don't work.

Actually, that would be tips, or in this case tool tips. Just to make it
easier for you an I to communicate about this in the future Wink

They only work when you hover over an item in an active window. You have to
click on the toolbar some where first. It is on my list of things to ask
the MUI experts, but it is not a show stopper.

I don't believe this has changed as the PageStream default in a long time
(3.0 time). However, if you go to File->Prefs->View and set Grid to off and
save, you will change the default behaviour until you delete your prefs
file. Speaking of which. You (and anyone else) can copy your 3.x/4.x
PageStream pref file to your 5.0 installation. Just put it in the UserPrefs
folder. New downloads will not over write that file.

You just need to make sure that valid Type 1 or TrueType fonts are added
via the File->System Prefs->Fonts requester.

Thanks for the report!

I know people have Personal Paint running under AOS4, and Colorfont
(free on Aminet) is basically the same program, so it should work.

IMO this is the best editor for bitmap fonts (including non-coloured
ones).

Here it is. I think this fixed version of the Softlogik.font
will do the job. There is no more glyph error here.

Have no idea what you mean by the "current beta". All versions of
OS4.0 are still at the 'beta' level, as far as I know. Smile

Yes, I'm running under Update #3 of OS4.0.

Hi PageStream Support,

PS> That would be from some other installation.

Did you mean the installation of another version of PageStream? I
also have Amiga 4.1.5.6 ready to go on the AmiDock. Anyway, the
yellow guy is no big deal but it doessn't look good.

PS> Does anyone know

Cannot help with above question.

PS>> Toolbars:

PS> Actually, that would be tips, or in this case tool tips. Just to

OK, "tool tips" it is! I like them when they work. Reason? When
4.1.5.6 is running on its 1280x1024 32 bit screen, I find some of
the icons in the toolbars hard to 'read', to 'recognize' -- these
"tool tip" guys would remind me.

I've tried the suggestions you make above, but still inconsistent.
However, as you say, it is a minor matter.

Well ..... I've not been very diligent. If I really wanted the grid
off, I should have followed your suggestion already. Yes, I must
copy my prefs over. Good idea! I just haven't got that far yet.
Smile

Ok, I 'll give that a try. Smile
