Greetings All,

Finally got around to giving PageStream Amiga PPC 5.0.2.12 PRO a whirl.

NOTE: Running under Update #3 of OS4.0

Some negatives remain:

-1- Vertical & horizontal scroll bars are worse than in 5.0.2.10, as we have now
the "window goes black" problem in addition. But nothing new here.

-2- When loading a file and the window to 'substitute' fonts appears, unless
DONE is clicked, PageStream freezes immediatley. OS4 rolls on, but
dysfunctional PageStream windows are all over the Workbench screen. But nothing
new here.

The positive points:

-1- My earlier claim that after PageStream is opened a few times, it freezes
upon reaching the stage "Loading Effects" is no longer valid. I've opened and
closed PageStream at least a dozen times now, and that problem only came up
once. Good. Smile In the past, this problem reared its head as soon as
PageStream froze and one had to reboot.

-2- Using the Ascii text obtained from a Crash Log file, I created a two-column
format to hold the text. Created the two columns on the first page by hand and
then loaded the text. OK. For the succeeding pages, I used the menu "Layout ->
Creat Text Frames..." and it worked flawlessly. Smile

-3- Having created too many pages, "Layout -> Delete Page..." got rid of the
unecessary ones.

-4- Saved the resulting file to RAM, WITHOUT any crash or freeze. Previously
this was a dangerous operation that usually would fail.

-5- Opened the "Crash Log" file that had been saved to RAM: successfully. At
this point we have about a 14 page file. Added another 15 pages where each page
was a *single* column and then connected the last frame in the 2-column part to
the 1-column part. Deleted all the 2-column pages -- *successfully!* -- and the
text flowed into the 1-column pages Smile)

-6- Found a couple of blank pages that should not have been there --- OH, OH,
not so good -- so deleted them. Saved, opened, saved, etc. all successfully.

-7- Closed PageStream, then opened it again and loaded the "Crash Log" file that
had been saved into RAM: -- successfully.

-8- Tried to open a file that had been created by version 4.1.5.6 (not the Pro
version), and it opened *successfully.* *NOT* been able to do that before. The
file was a bit of a mess because the wrong font had been substituted, but that
could have been fixed up.

Looks like progress to me. Good work Deron. Once the vertical and horizontal
scroll bars start behaving, some serious testing can begin. Wink So far, I've
not tried to "fix up" a large file that was started with 4.1.5.6. I have opened
an 'old' PageStream file that was 21 pages, and just 'paged' through it. Looked
pretty much OK.

Deron, what sort of things should we be testing and when failure occurs what
sort of data are you looking for: Crash Logs, output from SnoopDos??? I don't
want to be sending a lot of info that is useless.

Cheers Don (Green Dragon)
