I just tried the Softlogik trick on the OS4.0 version of V .12 by
deleting the contents of Filters, Effects, Printers and Special. The
previously reported problem of cycling attempts to generate a Grim
Reaper fault continued.

I renamed the restored Softlogik folder to Softlogik-Concealed (trust
me, it's clever enough to fool Pagestream) and it seems to be working!
I tried to register the Workbench fonts, but that still does not
provide any text.

The folders I did not empty in the first test were; colors, Profiles,
Engines, Csets (Hmmm!), FileIcons and the file, fontSubstitutionData.
I shall try renaming each file and folder, in turn (especially CSets!)
to see if there is just one folder that is doing the damage. Do try
this at home, for yourselves.

Then I shall download the latest, broken fonts and see if I can, at
least, type some displayed text.

I may be gone some time.

Oh, look! The sun's come out!

It seems that if any of the following folders are not concealed, the Grim Reaper appears.

Softlogik/
Printers, Special, Filters, Engines, effects

It was because the Engines folder was not concealed that my fists attempt (outlined in the original note) did not work.

I'm off to see the font wizard, now.

The fonts were already there! I added an assign for AOS4: to point to the boot partition and I added the fonts, folder by folder, in the time honoured way. I selected an installed font and typed into my new document. Excellent! The rendering is infinitely better than the 68k V4 version. I drew some boxes, circles, tables and hexagons. Noticed that the flyouts are missing from the toolbox. Viewed all the palettes. Non have a drag corner and some have missing icons, etc so most cannot be used. 'Remember Window Positions' does not work. However, palettes can be moved and the main edit window can be resized, zoomed and moved. I don't know how much of the broken stuff is due to the concealed Softlogik drawers. I assume saving, loading and printing is locked away in these drawers.

I set up a new public MUI screen and tried to manually edit the PGS5 prefs file. No screen entry. Tried PUBSCREEN=Pagestream in the tooltypes, but to no effect.

Now, I must have a nap to recover from all the excitement. I am very encouraged.
