This is a big improvement over previous release.

Still existing problems (although surely not the only ones)

1. Attempting to open (new or existing) file from PageStream
Navigator results in error #80000004 and necessary reboot.

2. Can't open the screen prefs to switch from Workbench Screen to
custom screen.

3. When opening existing file "Font Substitution" window opens.
Text in font substitution "button?" is double written and
illegible.
Only dashes appear for the fonts to be substituted. However, file
does open okay after selecting "Done".
Only, since I can't see what fonts are to be subbed, I can't select
the correct conversion.

4. File can be edited and saved, but saving as PDF results in error
#80000008 and required reboot. PDF file is partially written (or
with error) and can't be opened by Acrobat reader.

5. Print Setup can't be opened so I can't select printer or do
printing.

That's all I've check so far.

Keep of the good work.

New information:

Note: If I select one of the dashes, the font names become visible and font substitution can be correctly done.
However, fonts that have been custom made or edited by TypeSmith are invisible. Is that something that can be fixed in the future.
Symbol Fonts do work however.

That explains it.
But, where do I find mui prefs?
My MUI is in Work:Software as (IIRC) it was installed for WinUAE.
There is a Presets directory with prefs files in it, but no mui.prefs
or anything that looks like it.

Thanks for the response.

check the files section of this group on yahoo groups.
i uploaded screenshots some month ago.

quick:
- start mui prefs from your wokkbench:mui drawer.
- go to "windows" and in the "control" section activate the second
gadget from the left ("window border gadget to call a programs mui
settings")
- save settings
- start pagestream
- exactly the activated gadget should now appear in all the the
pagestream windows - press it
- pagestreams mui preferences appear. go to "screens"
- define your screen, shose it and save it.

now pagestream will open on that defines screen.

Thanks. I'd forgotten that MUI in the MUI directory was the prefs program.
I haven't been able to get it to work yet. Do you have to register MUI first?

If so, does credit card payment work for MUI registration. The reason I ask is
that I have version 3.8 and it has a copyright date of 1997.

Not sure what you mean. You are welcome to send a font that doesn't display
to me at support@pagestream.org. I wonder if other applications can use
them as well. It may just be an encoding issue?

OK. I'll send both the ttf and dmf versions this afternoon. That'll be after 2:00 p.m. your time.
It could be that the files haven't been saved with the proper flags (or whatever set). They do display under
4.1.5.6 okay though.

Pagestream 5 68k Amiga. On Amithlon.

I downloaded the fix file (303626 bytes) and put the resulting library
in Pagestream5 Libs drawer.

The program starts up. "Open" does nothing at all, either from the panel
or the menu.

"New" opens a window with a blank page in it, then gives an error
requester (on the WB screen, not on the Pagestream screen) saying
"Program failed Error #8000000B"

The last file called in the SnoopDOS log is
LIBS:muiwinscroller.class

The tool box cannot be dragged in its normal vertical strip form, but
changing it to Block gives a bit of top bar for dragging. Prefs are
saved OK.

The splash panel is still a mess but as it only appears for about 1/4
second this is not too important.

The Softlogik drawer in Pagestream4 contains Catalogs, Effects, Engines,
Filters and Printers. None of these appear in the PGS 5 Softlogik drawer. Should
I copy them across?

No, they were redone some between 4.1 and the new 5.0. The archive really
doesn't have anything in softlogik? That would explain a lot of things Wink
Are you sure? I thought someone else was getting things to work except they
could not save as pdf because the softlogik/special/zlib.spl filter was
missing.

I went back to the archive (Pagestream5.0.2.12pro.lha from April 2) and
redid the Unarc. This time the missing files appeared.

(Is that the latest full archive?)

However, it now crashes the computer at "Loading Filters". The filters
drawer contains files called xxx.gfl, xxx.rsc, etc.

Where exactly are the two libraries supposed to go?

Is that still missing? It was not in the archive.

Now that the Splash panel is up for longer - all that is wrong with it
is that the image is not scaled to fit.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure I created a new directory for my archives of 5.0.3.

Checked the web site again - there seems to be an April 10 archive.
Downloaded that and unarced it. (I think this is actually the one I was
testing before.)

This time we are back to where we were before - it crashes when trying
to display a document.

In the case of a New document, the window opens and a blank page is
displayed - then it jumps to the WB screen to display an error
requester.

It will now open the Welcome document but crashes when trying to display
it.

Every archive uploaded so far is a full archive, minus the non-american
spelling dictionaries and fonts.

That would be a bug from the 5.0.2.12 softlogikapp.library.

I just checked, and the 5.0.3.1pro archive for OS3-68k _does_ have the
filters, and at least a short glance shows all files as it should. I would
go back to your 5.0.3.1pro.lha archive and stick to just that.

The scale issue was fixed in 5.0..3.1 as well.

Works ok here. Do the menus work for you? I always use the navigator except
for open recent (for obvious reasons), so I am surprised it is not the
other way around...

Works ok with PPC version, and creates a functional PDF file.

Ok, found it. By default it will compress everything with flate/zlib. That
filter is missing (never got compiled for 68k). Just try no compression and
see if it works for you. I also fixed it so it at least won't crash when
this occurs (It should disable compression...)

Same, no printer drivers compiled for this release. Duh. Next release.

Open and New works fine from menu. Opening an existing file from the Navigator
successfully opens the window and then displays the error message indicated in 1
and gives the option to suspend or reboot. Incidently, selecting reboot does nothing.
I have to use CTRL-Amiga-Amiga.

That was it. It save correctly and displays probably with Adobe Reader 7.0 with
no compression.

That's good. Of course, if I had a reason to, I could open the file and print from 4.1.5.6.
As it is, all my real work will be done with 4.1.5.6 until all bugs are out of 5.0.x.
Another question though.

I'm assuming that the Times font is under IntelliFonts/CSTimes. At least, if I leave that
out of the 'Intalled Font Folders" under System Preferences, it doesn't appear.

When IntelliFonts is installed, if I highlight test and select Attributes under the Type Menu, Times Normal (etc.)
and my custom font (which is invisible but present, as it is displayed with 4.1.5.6) are listed. However, they don't appear under Font. Symbol does show up
there, and is the last of a total of 28 fonts (in some cases that includes bold as well as normal).
Is that expected?

I'm not sure I understand.

You should see 4 Times fonts, 2 Triumvirate fonts, and 4 Garamond fonts.

> Dave McKinstry

Deron,

Actually, I don't understand either.

That's exactly what I have when I only have Intellifonts.

When I install StandardFonts, I get in addition
2 Avnt, 2 Book, 1 Chan, 2 Cour, 1 Ding, 2 HelvNrw, 2 Pala, 2 Schl, and 1 Symbol.

When I install SoftLogikFonts, I get in addition
1 Artistic, 1 Athena, 1 Circus, 1 Elegance and a few more, but all the Times have disappeared.

It seems like there's a max on the number of fonts displayed under the Menu Type/Font, that doesn't seem to be there when selecting a font using the
Menu Type/Attributes.

I just removed the SoftLogikFonts, and the Times and my own font came back.
I just doubled Maximum Memory to Use to 400K, Maximum Size to Cache to 200 Pixels, and number of Open Fonts to 20, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

I still can't get my custom font to display, but it's there.
If I save it as an uncompressed pdf file, it's invisible, if I open the pdf file with PageStream 4.1.5.6 pro, the font isn't there, but if I open the PageStream document with PageStream 4.1.5.6 pro, the font is okay.
I think the font and file I sent you before, has missing characters in the custom font, and I'll send you a fresh archive, if you think you'll have a chance to look at it.

Thanks.

Hi!

I downloaded the latest version and tried it. At first it was disappointing
because the GUI, starting with the splash screen, still looks very garbled.
And it still crashes trying to load any of my documents (I suspect it's the
font substitution). I can provide logs if necessary of course. Is this
needed/wanted, or are there enough known bugs?

But playing around with it a bit, I see that it's definitely moving
forwards. Most of the GUI, although still garbled here and there, appears
to be more or less right. The palette windows are impossible to move, which
is awkward. And it's not possible to change eg the marker tool between
different types (object select, point edit, crop etc). It crashes if I try
to insert a picture. But I can at least load the included example PgS file
and it seems ok.

I also tried the 4.1.8.2 version briefly, but it seems to have all the same
problems so I didn't bother much.

If you are talking about backgrounds in the text gadgets, I finally tracked
that down and fixed it. If you mean something else, what?

By all means, send the logs to support@pagestreamo.org. I fear many of the
bugs are going to be hard to track from here.

Glad to hear it!

>The palette windows are impossible to move, which is awkward.

This one has got me stumped. The toolbox (and of course toolbar) are the
only ones I can think of that are not moveable right now. The toolbox has
the problem that it can't have a depth (or any other) gadget in the top bar.

>And it's not possible to change eg the marker tool between

Yes, I need to figure out how to create a flyout button in MUI. One of
those things. You can however put them in the toolbar and click on them
there. I did notice also that the mouse form was not changing at all.

>It crashes if I try to insert a picture.

Is that with all picture types, or just certain types? JPG and PNG are
still disfunctional, but the rest should be ok!

>But I can at least load the included example PgS file and it seems ok.

Great!

Generally speaking (unless I screw up a compile), testing different
versions is unnecessary. 4.1, 4.1 Pro, 5.0, and 5.0 Pro all use the same
libraries, and that is where the new code is (and bugs).
