Hello to everyone,
This is my first post here and I'd like to ask you about a problem I
have with the latest versions of pagestream 5.0.3.1a and 4.1.8.1!

I have an OS4 microA1 and the only version that I can run on my system
is 5.0.2.0! I use a clean installation of the OS4 so, I don't think
that something bothers pagestream!

When I start pagestream 5.0.3.1a and after the registration it opens
the left tool window with no gadgets in it and the program freezes and
the cpu goes to 100%! It never resumes and never managed to start it
right!

From the other side the 5.0.2.0 works well, but it has a lot of bugs!

Do you have any clue what it might goes wrong? Thanks for your time!

Somewhat similar here. When I start 5.0.3.1a pro all I get is the
vertical tool bar and a miniature project window when I boot from my
normal OS4 partition. Unlike earlier versions, I now get an immediate
GR which freezes the cursor. It's a DSI error with error number
8000003. My only option is to hard boot with the reset switch on the
case.

I also have a completely unmodified OS4 installation on another
bootable partition. If I boot from this partition and try to start
5.0.3.1a pro, I get the same results as above.

If I boot from the update 4 CD, I can get 5.0.3.1a pro to start and
function. I've been able to change the font prefs, work with text,
graphics, gradient fills, and generally have a lot of fun, using both
the 5.0 flyer page, and some projects created in my 68k version.

Where should I begin to look to find out what's different between the
CD bootup and the two hard drive bootups? Anything I can send in?
Under these circumstances, will a SnoopDOS log even do any good?

Paul

OS4 update 4 (all three bootups) A1-XE G4 @800 with 512 MB and
Sapphire Radeon 9100.

I booted OS4 with the JIT disabled and then tried to start pagestream
5.0.3.1 version! And wow... It started at a flash! I inserted my
registration passes, and the program began working. I didn't try it a
lot, but I will tonight! But I am wondering, what is the 68K program
that an OS4 native program loads and needs, that hangs it. Maybe I
could pass it in the JIT incompatible prog list!

Thanks for your time guys, and keep up the good work!

well, that is very interesting! I have had several folks with this problem.
I would have never guessed to disable JIT with the OS4-PPC version of
PageStream. Bonnie take note!

While PageStream is 100% PPC, we do use a number of system and mui
features. A couple people have noted that a problem occured just after
muiwinscroller.class was loaded. Maybe that is the culprit? Snoopdos should
be able to help track down the problem. Let us know what you find out.

I don't think it's the MUI classes. I just did a complete copy of all
the mui libs and everything in the mui:libs\mui drawer from the update
4 CD straight into my boot partition, rebooted into the no jit option
and still get the same problem as above. I tried it with JIT enabled
(with the stock MUI stuff still installed) and still get the above
problem.

BTW, PgS can't be added to the compatibility mode preferences, because
---just as you stated--- it doesn't have any 68k code in it, SO the
PPC versions can't be blacklisted from JIT usage to try this. It has
to be a JIT free bootup.

Ok, so if you boot with JIT disabled it works for you? Or it doesn't make
any difference?

Sorry for the ambiguity. Disabling JIT on bootup doesn't help at all
here. PgS PPC 5.0.3.1a still brings a GR which immediately locks the
mouse.

G'day walkero,

On 17/05/2006, on the subject of "[PageStreamAmigaBeta] Re: Latest OS
version crashing", you spoke thus:

I'm afraid this is not the case here with 4.1.8.1a Pro. The symptoms are
still the same both with and without Petunia. After the PgS splash
window closes the vert. toolbox appear but no navigation requester
appears. The GR is meanwhile looping to the serial port but no GR GUI
appears.

ps. Deron, the V4 Pro distribution has both a Pro and non-Pro main PgS
program icon, the non-Pro icon not doing anything.

Rumour is information distilled so finely that it can filter through
anything. It does not need doors and windows -- sometimes it does not
need people. It can exist free and wild, running from ear to ear without
ever touching lips.

are you using the standard AOS4 theme or are you using some other
theme, because here PGS start OK with the default theme but
freeze with some (if not all) other themes.
If PGS run in it's own screen with the default theme it run OK.

Regards,
Paolo

P.S. for Deron: this is for shure a very minor issue, but if
sometimes you want take a break with other issues you can
look at this themes problem Smile

Can you give me a specific theme that I can test with.

No problem. I need to know, and it would be good to fix anyway.

Hello Paolo and Deron,

I am using an alternative theme and PS Pro 5.0.3.1a loads fine. In
fact, this was the first time I could load PS Pro 5.

My normal boot partition is "standard" except for my own minor tweaks
to the colors, fonts, etc. The other partition I've booted from is a
bog-standard OS4 update 4 install. And the OS4 update 4 CD (naturally)
is standard, too.

I had thought it was a "theme's problem" too, a few PgS revisions
back. But since using the standard update 4 install on the hard drive
and getting the exact same lockup, I've ruled that out now.

Memory problem?? I've run mem tester, but there's a good chance I
might have had one or more settings wrong on memtester.
