I see 4.1.8.3 was the last ppc os4 version of pagestream beta published I was wondering when the next version would be out since that one is not fully functional.

Given the betas of PageStream5 I would not expect further version of
PageStream4. I am looking forward to fully functional PageStream5 Pro.

I don't think that is right. Those who put in (very) early orders
were only entitled to V4. I had to pay a further upgrade fee (not yet
having seen any PPC version beta'd) to get to V5.

I suspect there are a few folk out there who rightfully expect to
receive a fully functioning version of PPC V4 unless they are offered
a free upgrade to V5.

correct. unfortunately some essential features are missing.
nevertheless it is already quite usable. esspecially the postscript/pdf
output is much better than the one of the older 68k version (i use v5.0.3.3)

It has many bugs sometimes locks on loading, will not load jpg files and screens go ot pieces when you try to scroll. there areother faults that need ot be fixed before it is even half way as good as the 68k version I use daily. And it is upsetting being forced to pay for an upgrade before you get hte finished product.

It is certainly not ideal to pay before the product is finished but
just as with the AmigaOne and even AmigaOS 4 development, it is a pay
before you go. I am amazed how well this self-financing process is
working. More slowly than desired but better than no development.

Don't fee too bad Larry.

I can't even try out the OS4 version of PageStream, even though I paid for it before my AmigaOne died in July of '05.
I'm still waiting the the promised new hardware that works with OS4 to come out.
Also, I'm still using the 68k version of PageStream 4.1.5.6 pro, since the 68k version of PageStream 5.0.3.3 beta Pro is less useable than the previous version.

Well, no one from Grasshopper has made any statement that that is the case so
I wouldn't jump to conclusions.

Although development has unfortunately been as slow as one would expect of an
essentially one-developer team for a project this size I do believe past
actions show Grasshopper nee Softlogik has taken care not to abandon users.

Hello David,

I just checked the SAM 440 website and it has not changed in awhile.
Apparently it is in final design though I did not see an actual demo of
that final design. I like the specs and am thinking of purchasing one
to replace my SE. My SE is not sufficiently stable to use in the
College. The SAM 440 website still states first quarter 2007
availability though the first quarter is wounding down.

I would like to make a small cube of a computer with the SAM 440,
along the lines of the Mac Mini. I think it is doable given the size
of the SAM 440 board.

On the A-Cube (IIRC) website, one of the trio developing the SAM 440,
repair costs for replacing CPU's in AmigaOnes are posted. Not sure how
easily one can send a motherboard to Italy but if it is reasonable to
do so repair prices look good. Of course if the problem is not the CPU
not sure what you can do.

I use the same version of PageStream4 as you. Version 5 is not
sufficiently stable.

Yes, the status of PageStream Amiga 5.0 Pro is
disappointing. I just realized yesterday, that I paid for
the same back in November 2005.

However, in view of the difficulties that Deron is
experiencing recently, it will be a miracle if the various
products are improved. Then again, occasionally one has to
believe in miracles. Smile

That is encouraging.

Hi,

Sorry it has taken so long to respond to this. For some reason when
our email got backed up at pagestream.org, it locked my yahoo account
from posting here. Duh, that is why I have this account...

Anyway, as I tried to say last week, the next version of 4.1 for OS4
will come out with the next version of 5.0 for OS4. That I _don't_
know when, but I am getting closer to that everyday. Now I need
enough power to actually get my A1 up and running. A step each day...

However, the important point is that versions are still coming.

Power, eh? I could send you over some good ol' Aussie batteries to get you
up and running, but you'd have to remember to put them in backwards Wink
