Hi, Deron, hope all is good there. After receiving the latest updated beta for Win, I wonder if we can expect soon something for our beloved Amigas ??

Thanks, Luca

Yes, just don't ask when soon is. I was trying to get an update out for
the AmiWest show but hit a wall.

Hope you can keep trying.

I could use the ability to re-import and edit a PDF file exported from
PGS, and to include custonm fonts in a PDF.

I am on Amithlon.

Don, I create pdf files by printing a PostScript file and then
converting it. In this process you can keep all the custom fonts I
believe. Also, the lines that end in arrows, etc., keep the arrows.
If I export to pdf, such add-ons are lost.

Now I must admit I use Adobe Pro 8 on my Windows computer to do the
converting. But I assume you can use GhostScript.

I keep hoping for new hardware. I would like to try and build a
portable Amiga out of the Acube since it does not require active
cooling. Need to change some aspects of the motherboard but should be
doable. Most of the parts are available over the Internet. But, all
is on legal hold once again in the World of Amiga.

You could alsways save the file as pgs for later editing and export to
pdf - that's what I do.

If you can do something for next week, I'll try to demo PS at the Alchimie show in France.

I know you do that, but it is far too much trouble. Time is short.

Ghostscript on Amiga is a PIA. I would like to be able to make a simple
PDF with PGS alone, and re-import it for editing later.

As it is, the easiest thing is to save an ordinary PGS file as well as
the PDF.

I think the SAM440 will be very slow compared to Amithlon. New hardware
should be something with around 2GHz clock speed, like any ordinary
cheap computer that is in the shops.

Admittedly, not needing a fan is a good thing.

Slow is not just the hardware but also the software and how the two
interact. Perhaps even more important is how the various busses
interact with the processor. I think the CPU on the ACube has some of
the bridge features built into the chip. This is similar to AMD
putting a memory interface into the CPU. As AmigaOS 4 is designed for
embedded use as well I think it will be fairly fast on the ACube
hardware.

My G4 AmigaOne is much faster than the Amithlon system I had even
though the Amithlon had a much faster rated CPU.

The main stumbling block to new Amiga hardware is less the design
than the cost. Unfortunately the cost reflects a small market and thus
we lose the advantages of other mainstream OS'es that have economies of
scale.

When I print from PGS 5 on my A1, I do the following :

first, print to a ps file in Ram: , named "out.ps". Then I run the script :

stack 200000
ghostscript:gs -q -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -r360x360 -sOutputFile=ram:pgs.pdf ramSurprisedut.ps -c quit
requestchoice "PDF" "Document ready" "OK" >NIL:

I put the script in S: with the "S" bit (script). All I have to do is, from the Wb Screen, is to call the script. Then I take the PDF document to the printer hooked on the PC of my wife... and print
