Hello PageStreamAmigaBeta@yahoogroups.com

Until now I used PageStream to print whatever I made on my home printer via turboprint.

now I am in a big trouble. I made a pretty big Ad and I have to take it to a service bureau
and make a PDF preview for the customer.

I thought it would be easy to print to a PS file and then convert it to PDF as, well that is but the fonts..

I'm using PageStream4 4.1.5.6 (For Amiga 68k)
PageStream 4.1.8.3 (version 4 PPC for AmigaOS4)
PageStream 5.0.3.3 (version 5 PPC for AmigaOS4)

and I'm not able to produce a proper working ps or pdf.

PGS4-68k seems not to be able to use TTF fonts properly, infact it doesn't read the right
name out of the font-file resulting for exampe in having a lot of "Zurich Regular" listed
in the font requester (each of them beeing a different subfont e.g. condensed, condensed italic)
ending to the unpleasent fact of making it impossible to really choose one, for that that PageStream
then selects the very same font eachtime, which might be the first of the given subfonts in the list,
or crashes. (I also tried reinstalling the fonts from its original coreldraw CD, since I thought the
files might have been corruptet).
So I am forced to use Type1 fonts.

Converting or using the same document with the PPC version of PGS results in having huge incompatibilities
regarding fonts. For example this is how the same fonts are named differently inside PageStream's font-requester

PGS468K ZurichBT-Light (Type1)
ZurichBT-UltraBlackExtended (Type1)

Zurich Italic (TTF)
Zurich Regular (TTF)
Zurich Roman (TTF)

PGS4PPC Zurich Light
Zurich Ultra Black Extended

Zurich BT Roman
Zurich Cn BT Regular
Zurich Cn BT Italic

PGS5PPC Zurich Light
Zurich Ultra Black Extended

Zurich BT Roman
Zurich Cn BT Regular
Zurich Cn BT Italic

Luckyliy I have the same fonts as both versions TTF and Type1 but the slight differences in kerning brakes
the layout.

Knowing this I tried to select only the needed TTF fonts by hand and copiyng them in a separate folder and conseguently
selecting only that folder in the Font-pref of PageStream. But when I finally save the document as a PDF or PS file,
PGS4 68k possibly does not save the right name or embed them properly in the PS or PDF document. So neither on
AmiPDF / AmiGS nor on Windows the PDF or PS file displays the fonts or gets printed correctly.

This last problem PGS468k has with TTF fonts is shared by PGS4PPC and PGS5 using Type1 fonts.
I even tryed to edit the risulting PS-file created by PGS5PPC manually with a text editor and insert the definetly left out Type1 font
but it goes beyond my knowledge and the time I can invenst on this.

The PPD descriptors I'm using are:

.general 10 kb (Adobe Default Printer from the PageStream package)
ADIST5.PPD 16 kb (Acrobat Distiller 3011.104 Downloaded from the Adobe webpage)
xr8560dn.ppd 54 kb (Xerox Phaser 8560DN on which printer the docs will hopefully get printed)
xr8560dn-ps.ppd 224 kb (got them both from XEROX WebPage, don't know what's the difference between them)

And the last issue: the transparency of objects goes lost when I save as pdf or PS. this makes it impossible to print
the results. (well I could set set overprint and it would possibly print right, but I can't display it to the customer on screen)

what am I doing wrong? :-/ Sad

any help greatly appreciated.

thanx in advance.

sorry for the typo's I'm in a hurry.

I really hope there is some solution to this. I don't want to do all the work again, and I'm alienated to the idea to start using another Software package instead of PageStream.
