Prior to registering Frying Pan last May, I had been able to record something or other as a test. But when I wanted to record some photos to a CD, I was forced back to MadeCD.
A couple of days ago on impulse I bought a DVD-RW, just to see if I could record something to it. Frying Pan seems to recognize it for what it is and be prepared to use it, but I can't figure out how to record anything. A major problem is that what one sees when one looks at the manual at Frying Pan's home page, it is just too different from what actually opens up in Amiga OS4. And the most important pages there all come up "Page Unavailable I am sorry, but this page is still not complete. Please be patient; contents will be available soon."
When I click on the "tracks" icon, I get a window with "Drive 1," "Create New Disc." Then two tabs: "ISO Builder" and "Data/Audio Tracks."
ISO Builder has a "Dir Tree," and an icon labeled "Debian Recover." Why in the world? I am able to Add files to it, whatever that means, and Remove them, as well as Create Dir (named "New Directory") and removed that. Build Image gets a file requester, but selecting a file has no result. I cannot remove "Debian Recover," which makes no sense at all.
Data/Audio Tracks also lets me Add files, but whatever I add, be it mp3, wav, pps, pdf, text, Module Name says "RAW Audio Track" and a line below the Add, Remove, Play buttons says "Bad track type for this disc."
The "media" page is a mixed bag. It identifies Disc Type: DVD+RW. Good. Disc Sub Type: Unknown. ? Disc State: Recordabel Formatable Overwriteable. Sounds good. Contents: 1 Track(s) in 1 Session(s) Huh? How could a new disc have content? Disc ID:, Bar Code:, and Catalog Number: all --. Read Speeds: 12x, Write Speeds: 4x. That agrees with the info on the case.
Lots of buttons. Update and Erase have no discernable effect. Quick is an alternative to Complete. Format turns the drive light on for a while. I avoid Close Session, Close Disc, and Close Tracks, but test Repair Disc. "Assertion failed. Please report. Condition: false Occurence: Drive.cpp, line 574 Message: unsupported command.
The "contents" selector gives a tree of Disc 0 B, Session 4.3 GB, and Data Track 4.3 GB. I have no idea what that is all about. Target Directory is RAM Disk: Why aim at RAM An Update button does nothing; Download Tracks pretends to be happy if I select Data Track before clicking it, but Drive Progress reports "Repairing disc."
"drive" seems to say all is OK.
"settings" is a mystery so far, but I set Export Audio As: to WAV Audio Track, put a wave file in "tracks" > Data/Audio Tracks, and go to "write" where Drive Progress is "Ready" and click "Write." Information: Track layout failed (-2. Disc will not be written to.
What next?
