Hi,

I am a happy user of PGS5 PPC Amiga on my AmigaOne. There are known problems, but it is very usable.
Now, I bought a new Sam board, running Aos 4.1 (the same as on the A1), but there no version of Pagestream can run, either 4 or 5.
It loads, but I am unable to type text (the cursor goes automatically outside of the page), to select objects (which are invisible : I can see them by "select all", but I don't see the content of the objects and can only move them with the cursor keys), if I open a document all is invisible, etc....

I tried to copy the install drawer from my A1 and also to do a fresh install, but nothing helps

Maybe a font problem? Did you add all the fonts and font paths again when
you installed PgS on the SAM? Can you see different fonts in the font
popup in the edit palette? Did you do a new/clean install where you had
to enter your registration details again?

Can you at least draw simple shapes?

no (mouse is not recognised by pgs)

Some more experimenting.

I deleted everything pagestream related and installed it anew.
I gave it only the Fonts from the WB Fonts: directory.

New Document : I can only type text objects; in a column I can not place the cursor and type something. The columns are also white-filled. Unfilling them doesn't change anything.

Open old documents : Everything object is displayed. The text columns are all empty.

BUT

when I load Pagestream a second time, I can't do anything more :

New document : I can only type text outside the page. When I move the text objet onto the page, it becomes white and empty. I have to move it with the cursor keys, because the mouse is no more recognised.

Old documents : They appear completely white and empty. I can select the objects with R-Amiga A (select all), I can move them with the cursor keys, but that's all (the objects appear only through their seize points).

Then, if I open the fonts prefs, I see that the fonts drawers are doubled : there is for instance :

Fonts
Fonts/

once with a slash once without. If I remove the unslashed version and update the slashed one, I come back to the first scenario. Better but still not usable.

Strange, I have also problems on Windows. The two last betas don't allow me to move the objects. I can only move them with the mouse some half millimetre at once (and no, snap-to-grid is not selected).

At the moment I can only use PGS on my A1. Sad

you cannot reliably start pagestream ppc a second time currently. for
example it will use another message port then and mui will recognize it as
a different application.
this is known to deron.

(at least i reported it *some* time ago Smile )

Thanks for testing. Hopefully all these issues can be resolved on my end
but until then you are doing some good detective work...

Are there truetype or type 1 fonts in that folder? PageStream5 does not
work with Amiga bitmaps nor Compugraphic fonts.

You can always go back to the version of Windows that works for you. The
latest releases of Windows has over a years worth of changes that have
not been widely tested until now. It will take a few releases to get
things solid again.

Curious, how does PageStream4 Amiga 68k work on the SAM?

I will look if I find it somewhere...

I could not install it, because it asked for some _bullet.type1 or like in Fonts I don't have. But it works on the A1....

I heard from other people, it works on their SAM. I'm really unlucky

Thanks for your time

I go to PS : I login : I see windows and linux in downloads, nothing
about Amiga. I look and I look and nothing about Amiga. Then somebody
says I "have to buy" the old 68K version before I see anything. WTF ?

Well, I would say you really had us all confused. Not being able to
download the program is a far different problem than not being able to
run it for the first time. I hope that "WTF" is not some indicator of a
disappointment on your side in our ability to help you so far.

I just checked, and you did register an account at pagestream.org which
is the first step to being able to download. I don't however see any
registration records for your account. If you want to download a full
version of PageStream, then indeed you "have to buy" or at least need to
have purchased in the past. If you have the registration number and
product activation password, you can add that information manually on
the My Profile page accessible once you sign in or send what details you
do have to me _privately_ at support@pagestream.org. Please don't post
that information to this public list.

well, you need to be registered. you can log in - so you are registered. you
should then the the downloads you are entitled to.
if you have not yet *bough* the ppc version of pagestream 4/5 you of course
will not see the relevant downloads. seems quite logical to me?!

It's 'bought'. Does that thing have a dictionary.

I should note for everyone else that this user left the group just after
posting this. I've sent him a note privately to try and straighten this
out but obviously he is a bit confused. Thanks for trying to help him,
even if he(?) doesn't appreciate it.

That could be it. A valid request, but he never voiced it. I'm just not
always good at reading between the lines. I wish it was my only fault!

Now if I could only get the darn thing to run right he could have a
demo... Back to the salt mines.
