Dear all,
thanks to all of your help from the PageStreamSupport - ML, I managed to get rid of all "installation problems". As this is relevant to AmigaOS4 only, I send a copy of this email also to PageStreamAmigaBeta ML.
So, non Amiga-Users uninterested in the solution of my PgS problems, can ignore this email.
First, I want to clarify a (minor) mistake I reported to the MLs. PgS v4.1.5.6 is still 68k, not PPC.
To install v4.5.1.6, you have to copy from an Amiga OS3.x-Installation the directory FONTS:_bullet/ to your AOS4.x installation and include this directory to your FONTS:-Assign. Afterwards, the Installation works fine and without problems.
Currently, there exists two PPC verions of PageStream for AmigaOS4.x, namely, PageStream4.1.8.3beta and PageStream5.0.3.3beta.
For both versions, there is nothing "special" to do in order to install them. The only important thing is, that the directory "Pagestream4/SoftLogik/Fonts" from an older PageStream4-Installation is EXCLUDED from the FONTS:-Assign. Finally, you can click on the PgS-Icon and PgS should start.
*A weird issue remain for ALL 68k versions later than v4.1.3.3 and ALL PPC* versions for AOS4.1*:
After trying to start any of these versions, it happend immediately after clicking on the start-icon, that I got a GrimReaper (DSI Error) which couldn't be ignored and as a consequence, AOS4.1 had to be rebooted.
I finally increased the stack to 200.000 bytes before I started PgS. That worked fine. The *weird thing* is, after installing the PgS v4.5.6.1 (and copying the missing but needed fonts for the PgS4-installation), the GrimReaper disappeared completely for all PageStream-versions even with low stack values! Before I installed PgS v4.5.6.1, i could easily reproduce the GrimReaper (as far as I can remember it was caused by something like "SoftLogicOS"), afterwards it was not possible to reproduce this error again (of course, I removed all pagestream assigns from the user-startup sequence to reproduce the error) ???
So far so good
On last remark. I gave all versions a quick try and I can say PgS v4.1.5.6 (68k) works pretty stable on AOS4.1. PgS v4.1.8.3 (PPC) and v5.0.3.3 have some serious issues and crashed very soon or messed the screen with GFX-Errors. At least from this quick tests, I can say, PgSv5 is still not that usuable for AOS4.1 but the 68k version is.
Of course, I will more intensively test PgS v5 and report the results to the AmigaBeta ML.
greetings, Tom
