Just to add to Bart's work,

Background:

I installed the V5PPC version in a standby Workbench partition and used System Prefs to install the V5 Fonts, but without the bitmap Softlogic.font. The font drawer is the same one I use for the V5 68k version.

Copying the User Prefs/PageStream5 Fonts file across to the 68k drawer installed all the fonts.

I note that only one font drawer can be installed using the V5, 68k SystemPrefs. Adding a second causes a fatal DSI. If Intellifonts is chosen and saved, this installs the Triumvirate font and it is possible to enter text in a text frame. Otherwise, no text appears to be entered.

Comment:

The character settings in the Edit Pallette work differently from other versions. Next to the font button, which does not seem to do anything when left-clicked, there is a font requester button. It is broken and one cannot select any fonts listed. Eventually the attempt ends in a DSI.

However, clicking the Font button and right-clicking over the button brings up all the fonts and any of them can be selected.

Regards
Roy Leith

A truly wonderful discovery! Now if I can get mail merge working, I'm back
in business!

That's what I already reported for the previous beta, and the current one does the same.

But surprisingly enough, it works if you RIGHT-click the button. This is certainly a misbehaviour, because the Windows version does not do that (and the Amiga version never did, either).

The font requester somewhat works for me, but the sample text takes ages to display. The text in the three buttons at the bottom has blue background, as if mouse-selected. And, as Roy says, DSI errors appear as you fiddle with the requester.

When you create a text frame, enter some text and then mouse-select it, can you use the Type Size gadget in the Edit Palette? I mean, does it work for you? When I change font size this way, the size changes in the gadget but the selected text stays the same size.

Daniel

Well, I thought I had it fixed! The list was getting updated before the
dialog was opened, and evidently MUI doesn't like that. I fixed it so it
doesn't do that if the dialog is not open yet. Always something, eh Smile

The behavior is not the final behavior, but it is what is currently
intended. The old font gadget in the edit palette was just a popup with
all the fonts listed. Now, the popup is actaully like a minimenu. It as
at the start a menu that lets you change what is visible and how the
list is organized then a way to change to different font collections and
edit the collection list. Finally, the list of fonts is either like
before or submenus with fonts in each family grouped in a submenu. I am
using the right menu button because that easily brings up a context menu
which is basically the same thing, but I need to change this. I just
haven't had the time to figure out what to do in MUI. I've got a
collection of this MUI problems (for example, I have written the flyout
tool selector but it does very weird things so I took it out for now)
and when that is what is left I'll try and dive in and fix them,
probably with some outside help.

The font list didn't work at all for me in 5.0.5.8. It was actually
missing some code and it was plagued by the same problem as the font
prefs list but the font list didn't get the same fix in 5.0.5.8. That
should be fixed in the next release but I can still get it to crash so I
haven't made a new release yet...

Daniel,

If the Font is installed correctly (well, I copied the file from the PPC V5!) and the font is selected with the Edit Palette right-click method then the font changes and it can be resized with the 'up' and 'down' buttons. I cannot remember if the installed font family has to have the bold and italic fonts included for those buttons to work, or whether PGS will 'fake' it, but I will do a check on as many of the Edit Palette features as I can and report back.

All of the buttons and the other selectors work in the 'Character' part of the Edit Palette except for the previously reported Font Requestor button (Not the Font button). Next time I will check out the 'Paragraph' features. I did this check on the 'Flier' test document. Other test documents do not open. The font substitution requestor may not be checking for installed fonts. I will test this, as well.

Sorry for the belated response. I find the latest Amiga font button behaviour much easier to use than the original Amiga behaviour, especially with large font lists. The new font favourites feature could be a help if you went back to the old behaviour. However, I hope you will keep the font button behaviour as easy to use as it is, now.

No problem on the "late" response. It tends to get a bit busy when a
release is first made, and then gets too quite too soon!

The only intended change to the current font button is to make it
operate with a left button click instead of (or in addition to) the
right button since most folks will left click on it to change the font.
I'm sure (hope?) there is a way to do this in MUI, I just haven't
figured it out yet but at this point I'm not worried. A few other issues
to resolve first!
