Hi to all that reside here!

Just testing to see if the list is working correctly and mail is
actually getting through to the list.

PageStream for Linux. Now that is an exciting idea and I look forward
to seeing it fully working in Linux. I must say, I am a bit
disappointed that I have been pushing it lately only to hear from some
that have purchased it, that it's not working all that well yet. I had
hoped that when it was released, it would be out of alpha stage and
mostly working.

I have used PS for the Amiga for years in my business and find it to be
more than adequate for professional usage. After moving away from the
Amiga and fully into Linux, I was disappointed to not see a good
graphical DTP program. I think since starting Linux, I have courted PS
to come over also and finally they are, so PS don't blow it! ;o)

I am starting to see some good response to the program, since alerting
everyone to it and I hope that you guys will move to get it ready for
use. Run some more sales on the product as you did in March, but make
sure you have a workable product before doing so as Linux users, just
like the Amiga users, have little patience for an ill behaving program
on their machines!

I have not seen what is available yet myself, but have read some
responses from early buyers. I hope to see a better trade up deal, then
is presently being offered, from my Amiga version to the Linux version,
when the program is really usable. Until that time, I'll watch and
listen patiently to those doing the beta testing.

You mean you didn`t buy it as a $95 sidegrade from the Amiga version when it
was on `special` recently!

Hi Tony,
I was beginning to think there was only me on the list! Glad to see
another voice here. No, afraid I didn't get it during the special, but
will look again later. I was a bit skeptical of how stable the program
was yet, so decided to wait. It is too bad that it is not more usable
as there was a school in the UK that was looking for a good DTP program.
The person was on the SuSE Linux list and of course many others read
the mail also. After the way I have been pushing the product, I must
say I was disappointed to see the comments. Would have been a big boost
to PageStream, but one of the early buyers didn't recommend it because
of it's "alpha" stage of completion.

Anyway, did you get it? How is it working on your setup? And your
setup is what? Bring me up to date on experiences thus far.

Well, I bought it but haven`t yet tried to install it as I`m building a new
system for Amithlon/Linux and I`m not ready yet. But I thought it a good idea
to get it whilst it was on `special` (with TextFX free, thrown in) and just
watch the betatesters comments until I`m ready to install and join in!

Well theres not much to recommend installing it right now, except for
the learning experience of getting it running. Usefulness is nil.

Speaking of textFX, when I downloaded the pagestream 4.1 (bought during
the sale) The link to textFX was useless (pointed to the windows
version and wouldnt accept my password), is it working now?

I sure look forward to being able to do something more than just open a
window with Pagestream. I'd be a little (?) disappointed right now if
I'd paid $299 for what I've seen so far and didn't know from experience
how good the finished product will be.

I assume Deron Is beavering away on fixes as we speak. He's always quite
responsive if there is a direct question which needs answering.

Waiting with baited breath for the next release.

Hi David,
I remember you from the SuSE list! Good to see you on this list also.
I am Patrick (not the Shanahan one) on the SuSE list and Magic Page is
my business name. I think the textFX will be along later. I am sure
they will have to recompile or rewrite it too. I am hopeful the usable
version will be along shortly, as it would be a shame not to get it
working since all the buildup they and I have given it! Surprised)

I am not sure they expected the Linux crowd to respond to them, but I
think they will be surprised as the continue on with this project.
PageStream has the potential to be pretty big on Linux, so I am really
glad to see that they moving on it. Now for a usable version to play
with, huh?

- From the name of your biz it sounds like PageStream may really be a boon
to you when its ready. I'm basically a hobbiest (w/ big dreams), but I
think my wife and 11 year old daughter will really find PS4.1 useful
when its ready.

Glad to see you here, I think I've seen posts from a couple of other
SuSErs as well, thats good, probably help keep incompatabilities from
sneaking in.

Have a great night

Ahmen to that. If the Linux version can get up and running,
I would guess that it would become quite popular.
I know I used the Atari version to put out our clubs newsletter,
Calamus is more powerful, but too powerful for what I needed it to do
(still use it on my Atari Falcon) and Pagestream is easy and fast!

The 'advert' for the Linux version was certainly misleading,
and I can't get it to run ( and from reading this list,
don't expect it to actually do anything if i do!) because I know
squat about shell scripts. And from looking over some shell scripts
(like Adobe Acrobat reader) there's no way I'll be able to write one.
Not that I could not learn, but I don not have the time!

But I will keep my eye on this list, and the download section,
and await developments, and offer my support.

btw, I am a Lindows user, not a Linux user.(although I use MiNT
on my Atari) and when PageSTream is ready to fly you might look at
liscencing it to Lindows for their (amazingly easy to use)
Click'n'run warehouse
http://www.lindows.com
People here might not care, but the user who wants to use the software
available to do something, loves Click.n.run!

I too thought Pagestream Linux was done, from looking at the website.
And I have no desire to run Pagestream from a shell script! Give me GUI.

I agree! I, too, run Lindows. It is another market, when Pagestream
Linux is done I think Deron would be, um, politely put, Wrong not to
negotiate a deal with Lindows for Pay N Run. It is -so- easy to
install via the Click N Run warehouse.
