Bela, You can probably go to ximian.org and get the latest install of Gnome2 and it's programs. There is a simple installer there. Don't get the Red Carpet setup, as that is likely to cause you problems. They also have a paid version with a few more things, but just get the open source setup. I am pretty sure it will work with the Debian install as it does with the other distros.
By the way, how is Xandros looking now? I haven't heard much from them lately.
