I have sucessfully installed the latest beta in SuSE 8.2 It boots from
StartPgS shell script, but not from a schell only from the icon. I get
a few detached windows ala gimp. I can start a new page & that's about
it ;^(.

I haven't figured out how to actually write in it. I make a text box
(which I can't see), have a text palatte, but can't find a way to put
any text into the page. I feel like an idiot...I have used PgS Amiga
for over 10 yrs, PgS Windoz for about 3 & can't find the text tool in
PgS linux!!!!

I know this is a beta, but come on, it should do something.

I must agree with Gracia here. It starts to become a little frustrating
that there is no workable, usable version of PgS yet for Linux, just a
window that opens. It's almost like waiting for AmigaOS 4 to arrive and
beginning to seem like it too. I think everyone realizes Deron is only
one person, don't know if he is getting help with things or not, but
it's been a while and you would think there would be more by now.

While I certainly sympathize with wanting more I don't see why more would be
expected yet. If you look at the development time for the port to MacOS
(Classic) and then again at the development time for the port to Windows it
seems to me that things are moving along quite well. IIRC development didn't
start until last fall so I wouldn't expect anything really before this
Christmas and even then I fully expect that it will have issues. (No offence,
Deron.)

Although there appeared to be some initial confusion with the PgS for linux
offering Deron made it clear at the time that there wasn't anything yet and
those who had paid could get a refund. The fact that he is willing to allow
outsiders to see pre-release code is something I'm glad for because I want to
give feedback. It can be frustrating when there is so much functionality to
be beyond a simple run through and yet not enough to actually do anything --
and in my case work has reared its ugly head (closing on 10pm here, been home
for about four hours and still working) preventing me from doing too much
with it, but I'm looking to drop the shackles of UAE.

My advice is if your impatient for working product don't buy until a final
version is shipping -- and even then you probably want to wait for the second
release. PgS Amiga in UAE in linux works quite well for that. I think the
Amiga version is still the most mature.

But if you want to have your hands on software right now and don't mind that
it doesn't work completely or even right sometimes and you can lose work...

I do agree with Tim. Though it is frustrating to wait Wink

I registered PageStream on the Amiga, and I still have the card
somewhere in the desk.

I want a finished product, ever since I left to Amiga camp.

Since Deron is working as a solo project, the best we can do is
encourage him, and wait.

Yo PgS Gang,

I'm sorry but from the posts I've seen here some people are doing
SOMETHING with it...not just opening it & looking at it (very nice
looking)...like putting some text into it. Someone actually called it
'workable'. I don't mind waiting, I was just asking because I didn't
know what to expect.

I'm more than thrilled that PgS will join the Linux world.
