Either the archive is damaged or there is an updated needed on the
version of linux i'm running, as pagestream seems to startup, but
never makes it very far. No splash, no windows open. The drive
spins for a while then nothing. Sad i reinstalled version 12 it works
fine. Anyone have any idea what the trouble is?? Anyone else having
similar problems?? I'm running suse 9.0.

Hi!

Can you trace it, or run it from a shell to see if you get some feedback?
Hopefully someone else will be able to offer you positive or negative
response on using suse 9.0.

I'll take a look and see what I can find.

I hope so too. However I may switch Fedora, I had a quick look at it
while doing an install for a friend's computer. It seems much better
at handling hardware, the installer found all the onboard hardware (
network, usb, video, sound) correctly. Plus the installer had some
nice touches to it Enough of my soapboxing. I'll have something
later tonight on the shell output. Time for work..

Hmmm... I'm running SuSE 8.2 so its not really the same thing, but it is at
least close. For what its worth, it works here.

Well either my computer was doing heavy duty drugs, or i was
just hallucinating. I reinstalled the PS416.13 and it works just
fine. (more or less) Confused
So i'm not sure what i did right or wrong here... Razz
But starts and loads a document just fine. Smile
Which btw it seems to do with great speed now. I think my finger
barely left the mouse button and my document was loaded.

Another point on the clingy mouse pointer. When using the scroll
bars to view portions of one's document, I usually get a seg fault.
However when using the scroll wheel the document scrolls just
fine.
The document still suffers from the screen update problem in the
lower third or so of the page., I've noticed the button for the view
settings, (actuall size, full page, ect...) at the bottom of the
window, when clicked expands the menu to the lower edge of
where the document is no longer redrawn. Also this menu is
always blank in the upper portion, however i can scroll down to
see the other selections in it. It seems like these two problems
are related. Just a thought....

Hi

PS hangs after startup. Splash screen and menu bar are there but
everything's blocked.

I did strace the whole thing and there seems to be a segfault:

lstat64("/root/.PageStream4/FontSubstitutionData", 0xbffff4b0) = -1
ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/root/pgs/SoftLogik/FontSubstitutionData", O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = 15
fstat64(15, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0777, st_size=851, ...}) = 0
fstat64(15, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0777, st_size=851, ...}) = 0
read(15, "AGaramond\tGaramond\tC\nAGaramond B"..., 851) = 851
close(15) = 0
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) ---
write(11, "\33\3\2\0\0\0\0\0", Cool = 8
write(11, " \3\2\0\0\0\0\0", Cool = 8
write(11, "+\3\1\0", 4) = 4
read(11, "\1\2\266\3\0\0\0\0\300\0 \2\0\0\0\0\1\0\0\0\30\0\0\0 \222"...,
32) = 32
rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, NULL, [SEGV RTMIN], Cool = 0
rt_sigsuspend([SEGV]

Seems to be some font-related bug.

Cheers

Gunther

I was unable to find anything wrong with the font substitution loading code
(which is what it appears to be doing). it is not font related, but instead
is loading and parsing the font substitution list. Try removing the file
and see if you can run PageStream.

I suspect something else is wrong, since no one else is having troubles
like this but it is worth a try.

Actually, it looks like it gets the file closed, so who knows what it was
actually doing. Might still have been processing the file, or moved on to
something else.

Are you running this with root privileges? Installing into root seems to be
an odd place to do so!

Fixed. It was scrolling more than a screen full at once.
