I am having a difficult time installing the demo version. I hope that someone
can help. If the full retail version is this difficult then I suggest that
you make it more user friendly.

Thank you

What difficulty are you having? The install should be just extracting the
archive. Nothing more to it. You run PageStream by executing the script.

If the demo doesn't start it is probably because of library dependencies. Do
you have the GIMP installed (it happens to have most of the same library
dependencies)? What about libgnomeui?

What distro are you using? Are you using Gnome or KDE?

If you run PageStream from the command line the error message you get can be
helpful in determining where the problem lies.

I uncompressed the file and tried to run the program and it does not
run. Any clues? I really would like to give it a run before I upgrade.
I sure hope that the full version is not this difficult to install.

Okay how do I correct this? I read the readme. Thank you

So I take it libgnomeui is not installed? That is required for PageStream.

If someone else on this list has experience with Debian they can give more
precise information: I use SuSE.

Yes, probably libgnomeui or maybe liblcms. If you run it from the command line
the error message can be informative.

yes the libs are installed. Thank you very much for your help.

./PageStream5Demo: error while loading shared libraries: liblinc.so.1:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
calebsr2k@8[pagestream]$

seems you need to install the linc package. go tohttp://rpm.pbone.net
and type liblinc.so.1 into the search field. choose an appropriate
package and download it. install it by running
rpm -ivh linc.bla.bla.i386.rpm
as root.

You're very welcome. A character asset/flaw of mine is the desire to help ;^)
I remember seeing that error, I think on Redhat 9. It may not even be
required by PgS, but by one of the libraries it opens. There are two
possibilities:

1. The library isn't installed, but from your comment I take it that it is so
that brings us to

2. The library isn't where/named how PgS expects. An annoyance of how
dynamically linked libraries are opened. For some reason I'm not seeing it on
my system (other than in documentation) and don't have the time to chase it
down at the moment. For a quick try I'd create a soft link
from /usr/lib/liblinc... (whatever the name is) to /usr/lib/liblinc.so.1

If there is already a /usr/lib/liblinc.so.1 file/link then I'm not sure. For
reference, the command to create the link might be as follows:

ln -s /usr/lib/liblinc.so.1.0 /usr/lib/liblinc.so.1

Sorry I can't be of more help ATM

Thank you very much I got it working. Does not seem right that a
library should cause this problem. I hope that when I buy the full
version it does not have such issues.

Thank you to everyone.

I used pagestream from its early days on the Amiga. 1.8 was a stable
version. I hope that I can help others with issues in the future.

Actually, the library you mentioned (linc) is not directly used anywhere in
PageStream. I can only assume that something we are loading (gnome,
freetype, fontconfig, lcms) is loading it.

Also, as the demo has the same dependencies as the full version, no
additional files should be needed for the full version.

I also have a "liblinc.so.1 not found" problem on Suse64 9.2. Only thing is
that Gnome HAS liblinc.so.1 and adding paths (which are already there for
64-bit programs) do not work for PageStream50Demo. My problem is that if I
install the liblinc module, the script seems to want to wipe out my my newer
64bit version, probably breaking Gnome and who know what else! Is there a
way to just "get" the file just to satisfy PageStream? I surely would like
to run PageStream again. Started with PgS 1.7 on Amiga, then Windows. The
Demo was my way of testing to see if I could use it.

I wish I knew who it was that was using linc. It is not PageStream.
