Opening a PDF documents with polish diacritical is more problematic.
Mainly, extended characters are showed as not recognized ("spaced" in
text). A lot of documents caused crash of a program during opening.

Send a sample to me at support@grasshopperllc.com. Are you running the
lastest version? Fixes to both extended characters in PDF files and
printing of small caps was fixed in recent releases (but no changes for
extended characters in small caps if that was your problem).
