It so happens that I need to print something tonight and PgS refuses to print.
What has changed? I'm using SuSE 9.3 instead of my trusty SuSE 9.1.

Has this happened before? Yes, it has. In the past the problem was PgS could
not find the CUPS server unless it was running locally (the server is running
on a different computer on the network), but it *was* working without that.

I just tried to save to PDF to get something I could print and PgS hangs. The
PDF was generated, mind you, but I now have to kill PgS to print the second
page (different chapter).

This was with the latest linux version (5.0.1.37)

Forgot this was hanging out there: not sure why, but printing started working
again without me doing anything.

Tim,
Several times I have run into a "hung" printer with Suse64 9.2. The report
from (Menu item) Print System->Print Manager is that the printer is "State:
Idle (accepting jobs)". This seems to be a cups report, NOT a PRINTER
report. It says that now, and my local printer is not even turned on.
Anyway, I tried to print and the JOB just sat there doing nothing. As in the
past, especially after making some adjustment via YAST, I had to (in the
printing manager or a shell) Restart the Print Server. Perhaps this was your
problem? If you rebooted, that would likely cure the problem, also.

The thing is, every other application printed fine, just not PgS. In fact,
what I did was to create PDFs and printed them from Acrobat Reader. I'm
puzzled by the occurrance, but as long as it doesn't recur I'm not worrying
about it.

Hi,

I had the same problem in Suse 9.0/1 and since have upgraded to 9.2.

But, now I don't have a printer attached to this computer, so print to
postscript and then copy to a computer that has a printer.

I was doing PGS export to PDF, but the sizing was slightly distorted to be
smaller (I never figured out why) so to get exact output, I print to PS
file. That has worked ever since. But, like you, I ahd the same
stiuation...all other apps would print but not PGS....I figured it was a bug,
and have a workaround...

At one point I had the same thing with PgS printing being scaled down
slightly. I did figure out what was causing it, but at this point I can't
remember what (other than it wasn't actually PgS). If you want I could scour
my emails and system notes to see if I can track down what it was.

Most applications I use print through kprinter and that seems to be critical.
kprinter is clearly doing things that PgS does not when it comes to printing.
At one time I had to actually have a local IPP print queue forwarding to my
network printer for PgS to be able to print (possibly SuSE 8.2? I'm not sure,
but it has been a while).

I put up with the hassle of printing to postscript and manally printing that
file before PgS Linux when I was using UAE (where printing directly *never*
worked). Although it did have some advantages (decide to print the same job
again? No need to even fire up PgS again, just sent the job to the printer a
second (or third) time) I much prefer printing directly.

At this point the most common reason for PgS to not print is for it to not see
the CUPS printer. I can't be 100% sure because it didn't occur to me at the
time to check, but I'm 99% certain that when it wasn't printing it didn't
see the print queue. I'm not sure why PgS sometimes doesn't see the queues,
but when it doesn't they are missing from the print setup list. Because Deron
has a couple of permanent entries in there if you are in a rush and not
paying attention you might not realize they're missing -- this is what I
think happened that one Friday night. But the printer was clearly available
as I printed from other applications.

Oh well.
