Hi Gary,

Yep, here is the output...sure enought there are three calls to it, which are
are all "not found".

This is Deron's issue, I think...

I am a bit frustrated with this issue and even spend about 45 minutes
yesterday exploring the alternative "Scribus"...it has come a long way in the
past two years since I last looked at it. I still have my Amiga 3000 68030,
but am reaching the point where my Athlon 64 3500 is almost as much of a joy
(imagine that, a PC with clock speed 100 x faster is almost as nice to use as
the old Amiga...). The NVidia card with 1600 x1200 on 21" Monitor is great
for DTP...which I was "hoping" to be Pagestream... ; (

Hi folks,

You probably think I forgot about this, but it just took _way_ more
research to learn not much than I expected.

First thing I did was get the API for the shared library "linc" and search
_all_ of my sources for _any_ calls to it. Sorry, but not a single one! I
don't use linc anywhere in my code.
So, I started digging around figuring that something I was using must be
using it. Indeed, gnome, gnome-vfs, gnomeui all use it. No something I can
make go away. However, the attitude that it is somehow a fault in
PageStream just doesn't make sense. Whoever is calling it doesn't make any
difference. A required library is missing.

The questions then are how does other apps work? I am guessing that your
other gnome specific apps must be compiled for 64bit, where you have the
proper library. The problem here is that your 32bit libs are missing the
proper file and is faulty in that regards. You need to somehow install a
32bit version in the proper path. I am guessing from the looks of it that
you should be able to install a 32bit version from a similar system. So
what distro are you using? I'll try and find the missing file for you and
email it to you.

I know at least one person was using SuSE 9.3. I have that distro (as well as
versions back to 8.0) and so ready access to the SuSE rpms. I'd be happy to
provide it to anyone that wants to try.

That is true.
I was able to correct the 32-bit liblinc.so.1 problem by using a shell as
super user (su) and going to the PageStream install directory (I
used /usr/local/PageStream5Demo/ and used quotes when running the file "Run
PageStream5Demo" because of the space):

1) copying the 32-bit library file /opt/gnome/libs/liblinc.so.1.0.0 to the
same directory on my 64-bit system as liblinc.so.1.0.0 and as liblinc.so.1
(don't know how to make a symlink!).

2) and doing ldconfig -v

3) and adding /opt/gnome/lib/ to "Run PageStream5Demo" and to my
PageStream5Demo.sh file. I am not absolutely certain this is necessary so it
might be a good idea to do
uname -r;ldd PageStream5Demo
from your PageStream5Demo install directory and check for missing libraries.

If anyone need the Suse 9.2 liblinc.so.1.0.0 for their Suse64 9.2 install, I
suppose I could email mine, if you can't get to yours without grievous
problems.

Now to get PageStream5Pro to replace my Windows 4.0 and Amiga 4.0 versions.

Thanks to Deron and Tim and others for their help!

I had have problem with liblinc too. I use Debian Sarge (New stable
version) worked on AthlonXP (32bit); in this distribution this library
is ommited (why?). I reselved this by download binary of this library
to /usr/local/lib, which is included on PATH now. Next run "ldconfig"
and this is enougth.

Beats me. If they are distributing gnome-vfs, gnome-ui etc, then they are
distributing without all the proper dependencies.

I has look for this library in distribution packets, but none is find...
I used tool apt-file, which searches .deb packet with given filename. It
shows, as library was omited...
I has repeat this today, but all appears equal. I have tested this tool,
other files are found.

Hi Gary and all,

I copied my 32 bit liblinc libs from my other pc (running SuSE 9.3 also)
to the Athlon 64 (to /opt/gnome/lib/ directory) and ran ldconfig and now all
works well.

I received a complaint from ldconfig as:
"ldconfig: /opt/gnome/lib/liblinc.so.1 is not a symbolic link"

but it still worked.

If anyone still needs a copy of the 32bit liblinc lib, I can send.

Now I can work on PGS on my better (64 bit) workstation.

Thanks for all who helped.

John

I tried this on my system and whenever I try to run I get a popup that
says there was an error and whether or not I want to restart the
application or quit. Trying to restart just gives the same error. This
is on SuSE 9.3.
