Wow! Deron has the .pdf save done right! From what I remember of .pdf , it
was only good for general text stuff. I have a 2 page listing of Bible
readings for every day of the year, some with 2 readings and a one point
difference could break the format, yet it exported almost instantly, and
printed very accurately from Acrobat Reader!
That is the good news, though. I was unable to print with 2.4. I am unable
to print with 2.9 (Oh, thanks for the Christmas present, Deron!), either.
OpenOffice.org Writer works fine with CUPS. Gimp works fine printing.
Acroread works fine (well, it prints--had to print 25 times to get the 25
copies!).
PgS seems to croak somewhere toward the end of calculating the first page. I
tried an image on a page with no text and got the same thing. I tried an 8
page file with no images (well, lines and object lines) and toward the end
(guessing) of the first page, it started clearing windows and died. I tried
files that worked under 1.37 and it still croaked.
I am using an Athlon64, 1gb mem, Suse 9.2 with current updates. Any ideas on
where to start looking?

If You wish to print multiple copies under linux, try convert files to
PDF or save as PDF and then print with kprinter. This works.

Acroread should be able to print multiple copies, I've done it before.

As for PgS, the posted version of 5.0.2.9 is broken (it has an incorrect file
which breaks printing) -- but even with that fixed there are some other bugs
as well. I'm not sure when a new and improved archive will be uploaded, but I
recommend sticking with the current stable version (5.0.1.37) for now.

I didn't mean to be that brief. And looking at Adobe Reader 7 I'm not seeing
the option for multiple copies in the print requester. However, the print
command is kprinter. And when kprinter comes up you can print multiple
copies. The kprinter dialog has four tabs: files (the default), copies,
advanced options and additional tags. The copies tab lets you select the
number of copies and any collation desired.

Never fear. You will notice I didn't make an announcment for this version.
Tim Doty and I have been testing it, and I've made numerous improvements
above that version. You can expect a .10 soon. This last .9 however did
miss a new postscript driver which is required to make text print. It
includes all the character remapping code. I sent it direct to Tim, but can
do so for anyone who wants. Just drop me a note. Otherwise, wait a few more
days and a much improved version will be out.

Hi Tim.

Other than the broken printer driver, once that was installed, it should be
better than .1.37. Did borders print in the old version? I know that the
bitmap gradients and shape fills to screen, etc are all new features and
would never have worked on Linux (or other platforms).

Just want to make sure I haven't missed a bug that would make 5.0.2.10 less
capable than any prior release.

I was thinking of the font naming annoyance. Certainly no bugs that I haven't
already reported.

Understandable. I'm really looking forward to it. Being able to print borders
will be good.

I have been working on the project I previously mentioned for a while. I
first imported a half page letter file from Windows PgS 4.0(?) meant to be
printed as signature (2 across x1 down) with 4 pages per print. It worked
under Windows, even printing the back page with proper orientation
(landscape, long side flip, I think). All versions I have tried on Linux
failed, either to print or with improper orientation.
I mistakenly used "select all" for the text and got some formatting
(links--yielding report of "articles"), which is simply prevented by NOT
using "select all". The problem was trying to find which articles HAD the
references! Evidently the "text routing" has been missing for a while....?
Usually, arrow movement can locate routing, so not normally a bad problem.
I played with the borders visually, don't remember whether 1.37 or 2.9, they
have impressive features. Though I am not normally doing the kind of stuff to
require them, it is nice to have them if I DO need them, again. (I had
developed font snippets with Type Smith back when I was using lots of borders
and was one who sent a disc in to PageStream--long time ago!)
As long as I have a print workaround, I am keeping the 2.9 installed! Looking
forward to the next bump! Good work, Deron!
--Thanks to Tim and Bertold for the replies on printing, too!
