Hi Deron:

My Amiga is in the hospital, and I needed to turn out one page of
tickets, so I install 4.08c on my PC. For the most part it worked very
nicely, and very fast, but there are still some problems, the biggest of
which is still with printing.

- Saving Prefs - After changing prefs., doing a save causes PsG to
crash. The save is completed, then the computer notifies of an |Illegal
Operation| some of the details are |invalid page fault in module
SOFTLOGIKOSLIB.DLL
@ 015f:0062466e|

- Selecting Lock symbol - Select object, click on the lock symbol on the
edit palette. The mouse pointer turns to busy and stays that way until
the object is deselected, and the lock symbol doesn't get set. The
keyboard short cut works fine, and displays on the edit palette.

- When PgS is minimized to the side bar, and then brought back to the
screen, the document window is now too high, and may be in front of or
behind the tool bar.

-- PRINTING --

My printer is an HP Laserjet 4000.
I set up the information in one corner of the page for one ticket, which
would later be transformed to make a total of 12 on the page. I used
Kaufmann, and my default font which is Garamond, the results look
reasonably good on screen. Then did a print out using the normal |Hp
LaserJet 4000 PS| driver. Kaufmann printed ok, but Garamond was not in
the right font, and the character spacing was all over the place so that
it was not possible to tell which characters made a word.

Since it looked ok on the screen, I switched to |Hp LaserJet 4000 PCL6|.
It now printed perfectly, but at half size.

I then set |Custom size| to 200%. The printing was perfect, but was now
printed in landscape on the page.

Since the page was 12 blocks of the same information, I was able, with 3
copies, and cutting and pasting to make the page I required.

- Also I selected 3 copies from the printer requester, and only got one.
(This function works fine with other programs such as WordPerfect.)

- PgS randomly crashes when printing is selected from tool bar.
Notification says that program performed illegal opetration. Details say
|invalid page fault in module MSVCRT.DLL at 015f:7800cfef|
Some times it crashed when a second print was requested other times it
was on the first request after a fresh loading of PgS.

I just now tried replacing Garamond with Times new roman font. The Times
New Roman Bold printed the same as previously described for Garamond.
The Times New Roman (normal) printed ok (this is with |HP Laserjet 4000
PS|).
- - - - -

Still it is amazing how much version c has improve the program, and it
does everything with blazing speed. Keep up the good work.

I couldn't reproduce this. Try running pagestream, choosing prefs, and
clicking save. Does it work? Try changing something. Does it still work?
What steps can you give me that doesn't work for you? Thanks (It's not that
I don't believe you, I just can't fix it if I can't find it!)

Verfied.

I'll have to play with your printing problems. Hard to diagnose output
problems without the actual printer.

I complained of this problem a few months back but no one else commented.

I just installed a "clean" PGS 4.08c (not over a previous version),
started it,
chose Prefs from the Navigator
and changed the following settings
* General
- Switched off "Auto Backup"
* Type
- Set the language in "Attributes" to "Deutsch"
* Measure
- Set the "Horizontal" to "Millimeters"
* Drawing
- Set "Duplicate Offset" Horizontal and Vertical to "5mm" each
* Files
- Changed the path for Graphics to "D:\Data\Pictures" (using the
dialog box)

When clicking on "Save", PageStream crashed. The crash seems to take
place after the prefs are saved, as after a restart of the
application the settings are changed. Now PGS crashes whenever I
open the "Prefs" Dialogbox (with the seetings changed as above) and
click on "Save"...
(In fact, "Prefs" seems to crash PGS very often when I click on
"Save", "Use" or "Cancel". If "Prefs" is not the very first thing
I do after starting PageStream, just opening the prefs dialog has
a high risk to crash the application.)

Btw. Opening a document and trying to save it to PDF seems to be
another foolproof way to crash PGS. This worked mostly in the previous
version. Creating a new document and "Save to PDF" seems to work...

Regards
Roland Knecht

Another problem: "Save as PDF" seems to crash whenever I try it with
a document I have loaded from disc.

I've tried all kinds of things, and nothing would cause it to crash! I ran
it under the debugger etc. I don't have an answer at this time. Maybe your
OS? I running win98.

Does anyone else have a similar problem? What is your OS?

Again, nothing gives here. I've been doing just this for some time.

My OS is Windows 98 SE, (german). Hardware: Athlon 600 Mhz, 128 MB RAM

I have Norton CrashGaurd installed which usually shows some info when
PageStream crashes ("Division by zero in module..." and the like). Do
you want me to send you the info related to the Prefs-Crashes?

My computer is an AMD K6-2 3Dnow, 400 Mz, running windows 98. 256Megs
ram.

Try # 1.
I clicked on the shortcut icon on my desktop and opened PgS.
Clicked on prefs, which opened the requester.
Clicked on `save', PgS went dead, nothing worked. PageStream navigator
was showing completely blank. I did a three finger solute.
Windows came up with a requester asking if I wanted to end task, or shut
down. It said that PgS was not responding. I ended the task.

Try # 2
Again I clicked on the shortcut icon on my desktop and opened PgS.
Clicked on prefs, which opened the requester.
Changed something, and then `save'.
PAGESTREAM4 caused an invalid page fault in
module SOFTLOGIKOSLIB.DLL at 015f:0062466e.

Again I clicked on the shortcut icon on my desktop and opened PgS.
Clicked on prefs, which opened the requester. Prefs now reflects the
change I just made.

Try # 3

Made another change to prefs and hit save.
results the same as try #1.

Try # 4

Tried `save as' selected Pagestream.ini, crash same as #2.

Hmmm... I have similar problems on my AMD Athlon 600. It seems
unlikely, but could it be related to the processor?
Does anyone with an intel (or other "non-AMD") processor have
crashes when saving the prefs?

Is this output from Norton CrashGuard?
I have it running on my machine too and PGS crashes. Just to
mention an other similarity...

Hi Peter

I get exactly the same response though the @ may vary slightly. When I first
installed PGS 4.07 it complained about the mscvrt.dll rather than the
softlogikoslib.dll. I gave Deron this info in June but had no response. Now
with version 4.08c it is the softlogikoslib.dll. The prefs are always saved
but I am forced to exit PGS and run again.
I also have trouble with the mscvrt20.dll and Epson Twain.I think Microsoft
has modified these .dlls

I run and AMD K-7 600mghz computer with matrox G-400 with 128meg Ram and
Windows 98 2nd Edition

I have a Compucon Celeron 400Mz running Windows 95 64Mb ram & LaserJet
L4 printer
I have no problems saving prefs & have just setup and printed a 4 page
A5 newsletter with a graphic and boxes no problem other than I had to
offset everything before printing for known margin problem that Deron is
working on and the less than elegant way of exiting.

So that makes three of us (see my earlier unsigned mail - sorry about that)

After you posted the above I installed PGS4.08c on my Compaq laptop and can
change preferences there witth no problems. I do not understand why.

I have Norton Crash Guard on both my machines - installed yesterday.

Go ahead and send it. I don't know if I'll be able to use it, but I'll try.
I also don't have the same exact version. I also don't know what to do with
the info on Windows, but I'll dig and see if it makes any sense.

Maybe I can make up a special debug version for you (and anyone else having
this pref crash problem) and you can tell me what it dies on if I can't get
it from the info you are about to send me.

Deron,

It's interesting to note that it is also a "Division by zero" error that is
keeping me from printing to my Lexmark in PostScript mode (error message
previously forwarded to you).

Here's some output from CrashGuard after a Prefs-Crash

(started PGS, created a new document from navigator, chose "Prefs"
from menu, switched to tab "Toolbar", clicked "Save"):

Right how I was able to save the prefs without crash - but when tried
to reopen the prefs dialogue again, PGS went byebye.

After reading the messages in this group i think the problem could
be related to machines with processors from AMD. Most of the people
reporting crashes (including myself) run PGS on AMD K6-2, K6-III,
K7 (Athlon), etc. Maybe it's just a switch in the compiler...
