Hi Deron:

I've just installed version `d' and here are the results.

The first time I ran PgS, the first operation I performed was to select
Prefs from the requester. PgS immediately crashed.

Ran it again, this time I was able to select my preferences, but crash
as did Version `c' when prefs were saved.

I then ran PgS and loaded document and printed. The document printed to
my PS Hp 4000. Size was right but Garamond font was wrong. I then tried
to print again, but this time PgS crashed as soon as the printer icon in
tool bar was clicked upon.

I restarted PgS several times, each time loading document and attempting
to print. Now PgS crashes as soon as printing is selected (by either
method). I've also rebooted the machine but still printing can not be
selected. The crash is:

PAGESTREAM4 caused an invalid page fault in
module MSVCRT.DLL at 015f:7800cffb.

Could you please tell which AMD processor and Windows version
(country / language) you are using? Maybe there is a pattern that
gives a clue why PGS crashes on some machines and runs on others.

Thanks
Roland

Way back in June I pointed out on this list that crashes on closing Prefs
were often associated with the module MSVCRT.DLL though not always at the
same number. This module seems to have been modified on several occasions by
Microsoft and there are several versions used by other programmes including
ZIP disks. On my set-up MSVCRT.DLL is found not only in Systems 273KB but
also in programme files (cyberlink/DVD 2612KB, Iomega Tools 249KB, Bryce 3D
261KB).

I know TurboCad had a similar problem with a module (.DLL) which microsoft
kept changing. They put up a patch which I think inserted the offending
.DLL into the programme files. I have no knowledge of programming but did
wonder if Deron might not need to put the above mentioned .DLL into the
programme file rather than relying on the System. Just a thought.

Sheila

Good one! (I think.. Smile) )

Deron, could you provide us the msvcrt.dll you are using (maybe
put it on the ftp-server) so we can copy it into the PGS directory
and make some tests? (Would PGS "prefer" the local dll?)

Whether or not the system version of this dll is used depends on the
program, I've seen MS update this dll an have it break older programs.

I think it would need a patch as well as the msvcrt.dll so that PGS knows to
look in the programme and not the system. As far as I know PCs are not like
Amiga where one can use assigns.

Yes, I tried it out yesterday to copy several versions of this DLL
(from 4.x to 6.x, I think..) to the PGS directory but had no success.

Strange concept of having shared libraries but each application has
to bring its own version to be able to run... Smile
