I just purchased PGS for windows, and am in the process of switching from
PGS Amiga 3.4 to Windows98 4.0. I am having a few problems. Is there a
"known bug list" anywhere?

PGS 4.0.8d, Win98, AMD 750/K7, 256meg, ATI All-in-Wonder 128 video.
Screen: True-color, 32-bit, 1152x864 (ATI Rage 128 GL AGP).

1) "Personalize Window", when first installing, does not refresh properly if
occluded by another window. (Start PGS, bring up Outlook Express to get mail
with user/pass, close Outlook Express, garbage all over registration window
that looks like pieces Outlook Express window).

2) Can't paste (ctrl-V) into Personalize Window.

3) "Tips" window displays single/double quotes (the left/right ones),
em-dash and en-dash as vertical bars. Font problem? Also tip 43 has wrong
characters displayed for space before/after hint.

4) Will not load about 75% of the Amiga PGS files, "illegal operation"
right after hitting DONE on font substitution screen:

PAGESTREAM4 caused an invalid page fault in
module PAGESTREAM4.EXE at 0197:00513dd6.

5) Font Substitution window/font selection:

- "Stencil" occurs twice
- "Stencil Regular Bold Italic" occurs twice
- "Symbol" occurs three times
- "Symbol Regular Bold Italic" occurs three times

6) Font Substitution window/Fonts with long names, such as "VAG Rounded..."
are cut off on the right side, so you cannot see what the whole font name
is.

7) Win version does not appear to look for graphics in the same place the
Amiga version did (does not find any of the pictures in the "Graphics"
directory, by default).

Cool What you see in Amiga isn't what you get in Windows. Some text overflows
text blocks, some under. Not sure if it is the font spacing, itself, or
something to do with paragraph spacing. (Seems to be related to paragraph
styles).

9) PGS Export does not recognized applied bold or italic ("B" and "I"
buttons; does OK if the -bold or -italic font is used instead).

10) I have an A4-Tech "wheel" mouse, that normally allows you to scroll
vertically and horizontally with two wheels on the mouse. These do not work
in PGS.

11) When the PGS window is iconified, then restored, the document window has
shifted up, and its title bar is mixed with the icons on top of the
PageStream4 window. Also, the iconifiy, full-screen, and close gadgets on
the document window no longer work, nor can you drag the window. The
file/close menu still does work. After this happens, you have to quit PGS
and start it again, in order to get any of the basic window manipulations
back.

12) In the 'font attributes' window at the bottom of the screen, the pop-up
buttons for character & line spacing appear too large for the background
boxes, and have a vertical white line running thru them just left of the
down arrow graphic. Also, the font requestor has the same problems as the
"Font Substitution" window, with duplicate fonts and font names too long for
the requestor box.

13) "Save as PDF" file requestor isn't "sticky"; it doesn't remember the
last device/directory you saved a file to, so you have to re-enter the path
each time. (Would be a nice feature).

14) In "Time New Roman" font, the ellipsis "..." (as a single PGS character)
extends into the next character in the line on PGS files imported from Amiga
3.4.

15) "Insert... character", change font to "Symbol", a gray box replaces the
characters in the display. Hit scroll bar, they reappear, and the scroll bar
starts blinking. Pick ellipsis (...), the shortcut key is stated as "1/4"?
Also, if the requestor gets occluded by another window (such as this email I
am typing), the Insert Character window background retains the text of the
other window (not refreshed), the same as the "Personalize Window" when you
first install PGS.

If anyone has any workarounds, or could possibly convert my Amiga 3.4 files
to work in Win 4.0, please drop me an e-mail.

Thanks,
Bruce

Yes, it's in the ReadMe file Smile

Can't say that I've tried such a thing with that requester, but I know that
in some places the "empty" space in requesters do not refresh properly.
(empty space being space where no controls exist). Known bug. Only a
problem when switching out and back.

>2) Can't paste (ctrl-V) into Personalize Window.

Correct. You have to right-button click to paste.

Thanks. Guess I don't get a very "random" tip choices.

First, are you using 4.0.8d? If so, please email me the offending file to
support@softlogik.com. I am unaware of any loading problems at this time.

>5) Font Substitution window/font selection:
>

My mistake. The duplicates are removed for popups on an unsorted list (why
the system would give out the fonts in an unsorted order is beyond me!).
I've fixed this. Thanks!

>6) Font Substitution window/Fonts with long names, such as "VAG Rounded..."

The font sub requester should be pretty wide.

You can set it for any place you want. By default it should go to Graphics.
Are you talking about "Place Graphics" and the initial directory it goes
to? Also, filtering is on by default and will filter out items without the
proper 3 letter extension as is common on Windows.

The only item that would very between the two platforms is the font
spacing. Unless you are using the _exact_ same font, there are no
guarantees to the widths. The actual method of calculating line breaks etc
are identical between platforms.

>9) PGS Export does not recognized applied bold or italic ("B" and "I"
>buttons; does OK if the -bold or -italic font is used instead).

Fixed in either 4.0.8d or in an upcoming release (I can't remember, they
all blend together...)

>10) I have an A4-Tech "wheel" mouse, that normally allows you to scroll

Since I don't know anything about it, I can't imagine what is wrong. Do you
know what kind of message it sends?

>11) When the PGS window is iconified, then restored, the document window has

Known bug. Thanks!

>13) "Save as PDF" file requestor isn't "sticky"; it doesn't remember the

It's on the wishlist.

>14) In "Time New Roman" font, the ellipsis "..." (as a single PGS character)

The font spacing should not allow such! I'll try and reproduce this.

>If anyone has any workarounds, or could possibly convert my Amiga 3.4 files

Better yet, if you can help me reproduce the problem, I'll fix it and then
_you_ can convert your Amiga files.
