for example, if I set alternating rows of a table from white(default) to
a yellow fill of 20%, the resulting PDF show an all white table with no
grid lines. This has been the case for the 5.0 series, but was not
evident in 4.1.36(?).

OK, I didn't realize you were talking about pdf. I thought PGS itself.
And yes my coloured PGS-tabels are also white PDF.tables.
