Hello!
I have some questions:
1. Is there anywhere a dll-file with a cool icon for my PGS5Pro on Win98?
2. Why does the german menu not work on my Win98? For example: Öffnen
is displayed as an i with ` instead of the point.
3. Where do I find all the fonts I used on my Amiga, for example
pagestream, EarthQuake, Schl, Avnt, Westside? Can anybody tell me, please?

Thanks in advance.

If you have a better one than the normal yellow figure on a green sphere:
You can right click on the 'bad' icon and choose properties. And you can
now choose a new icon (or is it called pictogram?).

Where did you buy PGS? Maybe Haage & Partners can deliver you one. Try:
http://www.pagestream.de
By the way, I did change from Nederlands to Deutsch, and Öffnen is visible.

There is a way to change the font you are using at the moment:
Open with Wordpath (Wordpad: something like that) in Program
files/PageStream/UserPrefs the PageStream5.ini (Not with Word!).
Save it immediately and open PageStream5.ini with Kladblok (a Dutch
word, I don't know the English or even the German word for this).
(If you want to see why I do this, open PageStream5.ini with that
Kladblok first: all the lines are behind each other.)
OK: instead of Kladblok you can use a text editor.

Put in the next line anywhere:
DEFAULTFONTSPEC Tahoma,16
Now save this. And this should do the trick.
Open PGS again.

I think you cannot use these. They are Amiga PGS specific fonts, and
are not used anymore.
Those fonts are ending with fm and dmf like pagestream.fm and
pagestream.dmf.
There is an escape. If you still have your Amiga running, or use WinAE
on your Windows, you can download TypeSmith.
It's an Amiga program!
This program is able to convert your missing fonts to for example
TrueType fonts which runs on Windoze.
You should say: Thank you Deron!

Adobe fonts should work with XP. However you are using W98, then you can
download Adobe Type Manager from the Adobe site.
You have to register however.

Haage and Partner are out of the picture. Alinea Computer has taken over
their software and the rights to distribute PageStream. Go to:
http://www.alinea-computer.de/.

If you mean that you want an icon on your desktop or startup bar, you
just need to navigate to your PageStream directory (folder) in Windows
Explorer {WINDOWS key+E}, find the .exe file, and right-click and drag a
shortcut whereever you want it. I don't think you want a .dll file.

Well, that is news to me. The H&P does not have the rights to transfer to a
3rd party. I know nothing about this "alinea".

If H&P had physical inventory that they have sold to alinea (that would be
full copies only), then alinea certinaly can resell those. Alinea has no
agreement with us for selling PageStream upgrades.

The original announcement on AmigaWorld.net says Amiga German version
only. Specifically:

There is a description and purchase option on the Alinea web site which
I didn't look into any further than to note that it was there. From the
bulletin board discussion they're already porting the H&P software to
OS4, a cause for great rejoicing for the anxious AmigaWorld community.
Also, from the discussion, they seem to be a more customer-friendly
bunch than H&P which left much bitterness in the community for their
treatment of the developer of Athilon (or whatever the name is) and
general indifference to their Amiga line in the last year or two.

Anyway, PageStream is there in some form on their site. I didn't look
closely to see the particulars.

The executable should already have an icon specific to PageStream. As far
as "cool", that would be subjective Wink However, if someone has "cool"
icons, please share!

>2. Why does the german menu not work on my Win98? For example: Öffnen is

It should work, but if your default gui font doesn't support any needed
extended characters, you may have to choose an interface font as someone
else just told you how. I guess I should put that in the prefs interface
somewhere...

>3. Where do I find all the fonts I used on my Amiga, for example
>pagestream, EarthQuake, Schl, Avnt, Westside? Can anybody tell me, please?

The ones that came with PageStream Amiga I have been slowly working on to
create TrueType versions for any platform. As far as EarthQuake, I don't
know that font. If it is in .dmf format, you would need to convert it first
with TypeSmith. If it is a truetype or type 1 font, just copy it over and
use it!

Hmm. What makes you say that?

I just took a quick browse of the site, and I see no dating. I didn't
click the purchase for 99 Euros link. However, clicking downloads in the
PageStream section produces a list of downloads which does not include
PageStream. So, whatever the case, it would appear that they're selling
boxed versions only. 2004 makes sense given H&P's performance.

That's a relief. Their record with Athilon was disturbing---both sides
claiming breach of contract and the Athilon guy, unable to afford a
legal battle and seemingly close to a nervous breakdown, withdrawing
from the scene. I was afraid history was repeating itself. If they're
selling only boxed versions, then it would seem they're within the
parameters Deron mentioned.

As for the original poster, he was on Windows so none of it applies.

Hi Frank:

> ...try this:

I had already seen that page (in English), but never looked below the
line with the price. The 2004 thing appears to be the original press
release on PageStream 5 Professional. It's on the H&G site as well. I
don't think it has any connection with the H&P--Alinea deal. It may or
may not have something to do with what's in the boxes that Alinea is
selling. I would imagine the purchaser would have to register and then
get updates and upgrades through Grasshopper. The key thing is that
Alinea appears to be acting just as a retailer of the German Amiga boxed
version.

Incidentally, I see nothing in the English portion of the H&P site about
the deal with Alinea, but they do say the English language section is
incomplete.
