I seem to have lost my Edit Palette. I had moved the PageStream window over to my second monitor temporarily last week, and closed the Edit Palette (by clicking on the 'X') so it would not obscure part of my document. Now, when I want it back again, it refuses to re-appear.

I have tried:
1. Re-booting the computer
2. Selecting "Show Edit Palette" from the Window menu many times
3. Opening other documents
4. Moving the program window from one monitor to the other
5. Closing (i.e. disconnecting) the second monitor
6. Minimizing all open windows to see if it is "hiding" somewhere

all to no avail.

All of the other sub-windows in the Windows menu respond properly to the Show/Hide selections.

Any clues???

What about the menu: Window / Show Edit Palette?

Ow, you already said that!
What OS are you working on? What PGS version?

Hi Theo, I'm running 5.0.4.34 under Vista (Home Premium SP2), on a 64bit HP Pavillion dv5 Notebook.

Could you try a newer PGS-version, for instance mine (far below in this
mail).

I am not certain about the behavior of PGS on two monitors (I don't have
that), and what a 64 bit OS version does (different).
What I can tell you, is that I removed the Edit Palette a few times and
it returned all the times (with the help of the menu)!

I think, never used it, that Vista is a good OS (I changed from XP to
7). So that, Vista, shouldn't be a problem.

There was never a palette hidden, like sometimes a document can be (at
the outmost right down side. But this year I didn't see this behavior).
That brings me to this:
Have you hidden it yourself? PGS remembers where you left it?
Does the menu Windows say: Hide Edit Palette or Show Palette.

You can also do something like this:
Open in C:\Users\User Account\AppData\Roaming\PageStream5 the document:
PageStream5.ini in a texteditor. This is from a Windows 7 version, but I
think that Vista looks the same. User Account is the name which you use
on your system.
Change the sentence with EDITPALETTE into something like this:
EDITPALETTE SHOW AT 593 1070 COLLAPSED OFF
Do a save, and (after closing PGS) open PGS again, and...

Good luck!

Theo

Hi Theo,

Thanks for the suggestion, but no joy.
I thought that if I just installed 5.0.4.46 the problem would go away, but I guess it continues to read the same .ini file.
If I were to delete the .ini file, would the program create a new one?

Hi Rick,

why would you do that (delete the .ini file)? (And yes, PGS creates a
new one.)
Just follow the instructions:
Close PGS!
Open the PageStream5.ini file in a text-editor.

Change the sentence with EDITPALETTE into something like this:
EDITPALETTE SHOW AT 593 1070 COLLAPSED OFF

Save the .ini file, and open PGS.

I think (!) that you have your normal PGS back, with the Edit Palette
somewhere on place where you expect this.

What could have happened is, that you moved the Edit Palette (not on
purpose). When you close PGS, then PGS remembers where you put those
palettes and how large they are. So when you open PGS again the moved
palette is where you left it.
I tried it, but could not go down far, to the right, left and bottom, it
bumps onto the 'monitor edge'.
Is one of your two monitors a lot larger (in pixels)? Then you move your
PGS to the smaller monitor, and then you cannot see where the Edit
Palette is? Just assuming something!

Once in a while, I could not lay a finger on this behavior, the very
latest (Deron!) PGS sometimes forget a Palette when starting PGS (PGS
could not write it to the .ini file?). I did not click it away! But in
the Windows menu I can have it back, easy (for me, Rick).

Hello Theo, Thanks for helping Rick out!

I can't be 100% sure, but the latest release should already force off
screen palettes back to the window when switching configurations etc.
Since I don't currently have a multi monitor Windows setup I can't be
sure, but we will find out together on this list Smile

Friend:

Why do you continue to wrestle with Pagestream?  I gave up on trying to get him to fix the "BUGS" nine years ago and bought a great affordable program that supersedes all modern publishing inventions. I have joined a great throng of satisfied users of a desktop publisherfor almost ten years, and have no complaint

Go to www.serif.com and take a gander at PagePlus X4.

<<<<
I can't remember a time I have every blocked a user's email from going through and I won't start with this one. But I almost did. Say all the bad things you want about me. Bitch and rave about bugs or deadlines or whatever. But this really takes the cake. Some spam for another DTP program? It looks like you downloaded a demo version last year to which I have not received any comments about, and I do recall your name as a past registered owner, but 9 years ago would have been around the initial Windows release. You are going to judge the entire PageStream universe by that?

For you to still hang out here 9 years later with a grudge only shows some deep resentment. However I wronged you, I'm truly sorry. I don't know how, but maybe I can still make it right by you?

>>"great affordable program that supersedes all modern publishing

I dare say you wouldn't like me trolling on your list reposting reviews comments like "PagePlus can't take on InDesign, but it's a strong competitor to Publisher"http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/software_and_services/serif/pageplus_x2/220461

Sure doesn't sounds like the king of DTP to me. Glad you are happy with them.

Jerral, if you're so disdainful of PageStream and Deron's IMO very
responsive attention to users, why are you still subscribed to the beta
tester list nine years later? An attack on the program and its creator
and a plug for a competitor are inconsistent with the purpose of the
list. You're entitled to your opinion but this isn't the place for it.
