I have a Konica-Minolta 2550 laser printer with PostScript.

Running PS 5.5.0.1 on a MacBook Pro using OS 10.5.8.

It won't print. I just get an error status page which I can't interpret. In "Print Setup" it says "no PPD selected" but the options don't include this printer. When I checked the website of the printer manufacturer, it says it uses a "generic PPD." It prints perfectly with all other apps. This is the first printing problem I have had.

Any solutions?

Choose "Use System Printing" in the General pane of Preferences.

I just tried it and it doesn't work. I get the same Error Status pages that I was getting before. The only way I can print is to make a PDF and print that. Tedious.

Can you print just a single box or line? I ask because maybe it is a
font problem.

Can you scan the error page and send that to me?

Yes. I can print a single box or line. But I tried just 3 paragraphs and it doesn't print -- only the Error Status page.

I will gladly scan the error sheet and send it but first let me try just telling you the first part of the error sheet. It says:

"Error name: undefined
Offending operator: get
Error info string: hyphen
For detailed information: Refer to the PostScript Language Reference Manual, 3rd edition."

Then there is the "Operand Stack," "Execution Stack," and "Dictionary Stack."

I tried printing just a few letters in the same font (Times) and also tried printing hyphens, em dashes, en dashes and they all printed just fine. But when I tried printing just 3 paragraphs in Times (which included no hyphens except for hyphenated words -- the sample was justified), it wouldn't print -- just the error sheet.

Let me know if you still want a scan of the error sheet. Also, how to attach it or else another email address to send it to.

Ok, sounds like something it doesn't like in the font. If you could,
turn off "system printing", then choose print setup and choose "print
to: postscript file". Select any random PPD, or leave blank. i don't
think it will cause a problem for this.

Then print your trouble file to a postscript file (smallest failing
example please! Not some novel, but the 3 paragraphs that don't print in
Times would be best) and then mail the postscript file to me at
support@pagestream.org.

Thanks!

Deron:

I sent you an email privately (not through this yahoo site) because I could not figure how to attach a file here. I included a PS file, as you requested.

Deron:

Did you get the PS file I sent you? I have not heard back.

Meanwhile, I have another question:

Sometimes when I click on the question mark button that leads to an answer page, it briefly shows the answer page but then another page appears that says I must be connected to the internet. But I'm always connected to the internet. And I cannot get rid of this page to see the answer page. Any suggestions?

Okay, Deron. I get the hint (no response). I can't blame you. You can't be answering everybody's diddly questions. I was hoping someone on the forum would be answering some of the questions but I guess it's just you.

PageStream is for geeks anyway, and I just found that out. I thought it might be in a better state by now because in the late 1980s I published 4 books using PageStream on an Atari with no problem. But software was simpler in those days. I'm gong with Scribus. It seems to do what I need (barely). I wish you well with PageStream.
