Hello,

So a number of people have had zero success with the latest PageStream
(version 5.0.5.9).

I've not had any good luck tracking this down.

Does anyone who can not run 5.0.5.9 have the Apple developer tools
installed? I'm hoping that someone could try and run it with gdb (the
gnu debugger that is part of Apple tools) that it might explain what is
wrong/missing on these installations.

Basically from the Terminal type (pressing return at the end of each line).

cd /path/to/pagestream.app (or copy PageStream to your home folder)
gdb PageStream.app
r

If it fails to run, it should give some useful debugging info. If you
could send a copy of the output to me privately, I can take a look!

Thanks!

Deron

Now I run from terminal using gdb, and it runs.
And I run PageStream "normally" and it runs as well.

I don't know what is changed from the last time that I have tried to run PageStream without success.
I had modified nothing on my own.
Maybe an Apple update?

To be right, a I had done a change from last time when PageStream did not run.
I have re-downloaded the file, since I deleted the previous one.

But I suppose that the actual archive I downloaded has the same contents as the previous.

Did this continue to work after a reboot? Make sure also that what comes
up is 5.0.5.9.
(Or did you replace the display library with the one form 5.0.5.8?)

Not exactly the result I expected!

Ok,

You should still have Terminal install on your computer (->
Applications/Utilities).

Run that, then type

cd /path/to/pagestream.app (or copy PageStream to your home folder)
PageStream.app/Contents/MacOS/PageStream5Pro

You might get something interesting. Just send to me whatever it spews
out in the Terminal window.

Did you have developer tools installed before this, or did you install
them just to try this?

Right! Excuse me, but I forgot to mention about that before.
I had Xcode installed for a long time, but there was not gdb installed.
So I installed, from Xcode behaviors, the command line tools in which gdb is included.
Then I run PageStream by gdb as you suggested. And it worked.

Now PageStream keeps on working.

Regards.

Yes it did. It continue to work even after turn off.
The version I actually run is "PageStream 5.0.5.9 Pro 9/19/12".

I can see only a problem about the toolbar that displays ever icon+text even if in the preferences is set to "icon only".
The only way to change the toolbar's look is to right click on the bar and choose icon only.
But that problem, if I am not wrong, there was in the previous version too.

Ok, so that tells me that there is a good chance that the problem was
solved by installed the developer tools Smile

Now the questions is, what problem...
