Hello,

I'm new to the list. I just noticed that it existed shortly after
sending SoftLogic an email asking about when I might get 4.0. I
purchased 3.3 from Software Hut last December. SoftLogic was prompt
and helpful in January when one of my 3.3 disks was bad. They directed
me to Software Hut for a replacement. I sent in the upgrade card in
January and havn't heard a thing about it. From what I read on usnet,
this sounds pretty normal. Are many of you still waiting?

I see from the list, may of you _do_ have 4.0, some even on CD. How
did all of you get 4.0, or the password to download it? Do they email
it to you or post it?

Later,

Since I've had Pagestream since 2.21, I've been paying for every major
upgrade and downloading whatever patches are available for the rest.

After paying for the upgrade from 3.x to 4.x, I've downloaded up to
where I now have 4.0 revision 2. It works OK for most things I do, so I
haven't bothered with the newer ones. I suspect I'll be getting a CD any
day now.

I originally had me password for the secure site emailed to me by Deron.

I got another password to send my Windoze password. Still trying to get
through that download without getting cut off first by Earthlink.

Being basically a one man show, things take a little longer with
PAgestream, but the end result is worth the wait.

If you attempt to export a drawing as DR2D, all objects are filled in
black, all lines are the same thickness, lines with arrow heads lose
them, and all text is lost.

There is a big need for a usable export of structured drawings from PGS.
How about using the .WMF (Windows metafile) format?

Nice to see you are still with us - hope you are looking after that superA1000
properly. My very standard A1000 only comes out for special events these days.

Depends whether WMF is one of those proprietary Microsoft formats (as if
there's any other kind).

It seems like none of the designers I know has even heard of WMF,
so an improved Illustrator filter might be more useful. I think even
Word recognizes those.

On the other hand, WMF does have some uses -- as I just discovered tonight.
If anyone needs to get a drawing from Word to PGS, here's how I did it:

1. Cut and paste your drawing from the Word document into PowerPoint.
2. Resize the slide and/or drawing as necessary.
3. Go to Save As and select "Windows Metafile (*.wmf)" as your format.

On an Amiga, you can use Metaview to convert that to a Illustrator file
which PGS can import. Don't know if there's anything like it for Windows
or Mac, aside from actual drawing programs. But then, you could probably
paste the drawing right into one of those without PowerPoint's help.

Unfortunately, Word can't convert text to a path like TextFX does,
so this works best with your basic lines & curves. No idea how it
would handle embedded bitmaps yet.

At least we have ways to get stuff into PGS, convoluted as they are.
Getting stuff out is the bigger problem.

I wonder where THEY have been for the last couple of years. I find
those format type files all over the place when I get a clipart CD
or two that is made for Windows. The MOST important one co consider
is the IMSI MasterClips sets. I have one with 303,000 images/clips
on it!!! There is actually one set that has 1 million!!! (NO need
to have any other, I would imagine!) MY set has about 18 CDs in it!
Cost me all of $19.99 US plus shipping on eBay.

It would be WONDERFUL to have PageStream just load them straight off
the CD's. I have to use MetaView to convert them to something the
Amiga recognizes. It works fine, but is a PITA to have to do. I
would LOVE PageStream to read them natively!

Yeah, that was what you told me to do, Randall. Well, maybe it was
Mr. Cox, but your name sticks in my craw as my Guru in this area....
the process works well, just not as convenient as reading it straight!

Ain't that the truth!!! : )))

I assume you mean FROM the Amiga TO the other platforms.

I think you can set up Metaview with a PGS script so that it imports
them directly.

First, such a script exists (in Metaview:Arexx-Example drawer), named
'Pagestream_import.rexx;

Second, when in PageStream, I choose 'Place graphic', clicking in a
file req. on an WMF file, imports it directly with the help of the
'Universal Filter' from W. Faust (and maybe, of the
AmigaMetaformat.lib).
It's a kind of magic ;)

Regards.

Could be the Metaview datatype, too.

I am chasing my tail here, guys. Gimme a break!

Ok, first, I understand there is an ARexx script with
MetaView. I guess I will have to go there and see.

Second, I don't have, and am not likely to need, an upgrade
to CanonStudio. I needed it when I had a dot matrix printer,
but that was ages and ages ago. My copy of CanonStudio which
I did register, now costs nearly as much to upgrade as it does
to buy new. It is not worth it to me. So, I will never have
the Universal Filter. : (1)))

Start up PageStream and Metaview, then try running the PageStream_Import
script from within PGS.

No result... just an idling MetaView and hopeful PgSt...

Don't forget to change the assigns in the script to reflect your
install ...

Sometimes that may help ;)

It is normal waiting for the CD. (We don't get many sent out each day, and
we stop sending them when a new version is pending like right now)

However, getting online access normally doesn't require a wait. Some people
forget to include an email address when ordering (so no apparent need for
us to add them to the secure site, plus no one to tell when we do).
